I like the light blues but damn it develop a competitive roster and I won’t care what the unis look like

Do you think making these uniforms will prevent them from signing a legitimate closer? I feel like they could do both of those things.

Seems like Cubs ownership could pull out the following comment any day now

‘Well, we were in the process of finalizing a multi-year deal with Tanner Scott but ticket sales increased after announcing the return of baby blues alternate uniforms so I’ve informed the front office that clearly new uniforms is the market dynamic that the Cubs will further leverage’

Hey, how else is he supposed to afford to run a Premier League team and a portfolio of high-end real estate if the Cubs are paying luxury tax each season? Plus, inflation.....

Seriously fuck him.

Also, dodger now signing Yates. This is ridiculous.

Good Christ. This is worse than what the Yankees were doing in the late 90s.

Yeah I think it’s way worse to be honest

Dodgers are simultaneously: using their financial strength to sign whomever they believe may help them; developing prospects; and scouting, drafting and signing both international and domestic talent.

It sucks to not be a Dodger fan - I admire their organization and players but not a fan - as they are doing what Theo, Jed and Tom said they would be doing over a decade ago but didn’t follow through.

No certainties in baseball but guess there’s likely a better than 83% chance that Dodgers make the playoffs and better than 24% chance they win the Workd Series. It’s silly but that’s the system and they are working it to their advantage

Helps to have a ridiculous TV contract paying 2010 rates too. Otherwise I don’t see them spending close to $400M on payroll. You can take a lot more risks and make mistakes and no one will ever know.

Yeah, I find it frustrating that so many people don't seem to realize what a big deal this is, whether it's fans here in LA, or those in the media. The Dodgers deal with what was then Time Warner pays them 8.35 Billion over 25 years, and has a payment structure, if I recall correctly, that's set up to increase the payment each year. Because some viewed the whole thing as a "mistake" for some time when so many fans couldn't access the channel, the utter luckiness of the whole thing got overshadowed. It was a huge mistake, for TW, not the Dodgers. Moreover, the Dodgers then lucked out again because when Spectrum took over Time Warner, a Bally's situation could have occurred, but of course it didn't, somehow the ridiculous deal was written off.

So the Dodgers will make north of 400 million this year in TV, while the Cubs, some estimate, will generate 90 million. The Dodgers basically start with the vast majority of their insane payrolls already in hand thanks to TV. It's not that they're bold risk takers or whatever, they won the lottery with that deal. They don't have a TV audience that justifies it, not even close.

Super frustrating. I’ll tell you, the baseball media is LOVING IT.
