Cub Game Comments

Happ is just above average, Hoerner looks like more of a role player than someone to build around, and Suzuki is probably not going to amount to much. Steele appears to be the only potential difference maker. Swanson is fine. The minors aren't producing much, and our development system seems over hyped and is already possibly falling behind our competitors (again). This is a real pickle.

Well said.

Just a sad, shriveled pickle.

Of course they immediately put up 17 runs right after I say that.

Nice to finally beat up on one of the worst teams in baseball. Hope they can take the series but won’t be surprised if they don’t.

Agree that the next great Cubs team is likely years away from developing. Leads the Cubs in terrible position. Cubs should trade away Stroman and Bellinger as both will likely walk at end of season but not expecting anything more than either a single top 150 prospect or several lottery type prospects for the both of them. Cubs development cycle is not able to replace their talent. That’s not a knock on development cycle, it’s simply you can’t expect to be to replace All Star quality talent with rookies.

The 2023 roster was not built to be a solid playoff contender even in the weak NL Central. Roster has too many holes and relied on too many questionable “fixes”. There have been pleasant surprises e.g. Swanson, Stroman, Bellinger, Alzolay, Tauchman. Unfortunately, 2 of those 5 aren’t likely to be on roster next season and one, Tauchman, seems more like the Bote type career year by journeyman.

It’s not like Cubs are going to go out and find power pitching and power corner infield and outfield bats in free agency for next season. Is it possible that minor league will provide more power coupled with trades/free agent signings? Sure as it’s baseball and anything could happen but not likely

There’s still a decent chance that Cubs will play out this season and not trade Stroman nor Bellinger as NL Central is weak and playoff hopes are likely better this season than next, and Ricketts needs to keep butts in seats and eyeballs remaining on Marquee. Unfortunately, that doesn’t hasten the development of the next Cub team but should make the team watchable for August / September

5th highest run differential in the NL. Yeah, this is what happens when you play a ton of close games, have a shitty bullpen, and an offense that lacks power yet explodes all over teams like the Nats and Pirates every once in a great while. Still, this has been one weird season.

Is it just me or typical of Cubs fans - accepted a friendly wager to stay away from Wrigley for remainder of season if Cardinals sweep the Cubs on this 4 game home series?

Cards are in the midst of their longest winning streak of this season but they’re starting pitching SUCKS and Stroman and Steele are starting the first 2 games. They have pitched are as close to ace level over the course of 2023 as the Cubs have or likely will have for some time.

What happens if you win the bet?

Sorry Ivy, but I think a sweep is coming.

Would love to say bet was something fun, nasty but just a couple bleacher tix for a Cubs game

And Stroman just really doesn’t want to get traded as he seems to suck now

At Wrigley, a beautiful day for a ball game in the bleachers

Buddy and I have a ridiculous record over the last couple seasons on Fridays so I’m letting the gambling community know. Ha

I'm still in shock they didn't blow that one.

Ok I watched all of today's game and thoroughly enjoyed all of it. I don't care if this team goes anywhere this season, but as long as the Cardinals continue to be a flailing hot mess I'll be a happy little man.
