2023 Team
Wow. This is insane. So there's absolutely something really concerning in the physical if Boras was willing to accept $100M less than the original offer.

Yeah, and again, that should have been obvious to everyone when the Giants wanted to re-negotiate and he so quickly took less money and a change of position in NY. The "cold feet" narrative just never made sense.

Oddly, this is a deal the Cubs may have well done. Or at least closer to it.

Now Correa can win MVP for 6-9 seasons and make the Giants and Mets look silly

lol yeah, that's unlikely to happen.

The Mets dropped out after their owner, not front office office, made the deal and commented on it publicly. When pressed about how much it would cost them, Cohen's response was he didn't care at all, it's just money. In other words, the front office had all the reasons in the world to get a deal done-- it was on the owner not them, money is no object, risk of a grievance suit if they walked away because of the public comments, and most importantly, the immediate gain of adding a top player to your team. And they still didn't get it done! Major red flags there, it's obviously a legit concern. I mean he went from 12yrs, 315M to 6yrs, 200M. Who takes 100M guaranteed less if there's not an actual issue?

Mancini? Huh. That's cool, but Matt Mervis is probably like, "Dude, WTAF?" because Mancini and Hosmer actually seems like a good platoon. (Though I think Hosmer's lefty/righty splits aren't that different if I'm remembering correctly.) Anyway I guess with the DH it'll all work out?

Expecting that Mervis can produce at MLB level immediately for the 2023 season is expecting a lot from him. Mervis kicked ass in 2022. He advanced well beyond expectations. Hopefully, he can and will continue develop into an everyday MLB player. Will Mancini and Hosmer signings limit his development? The signings will reduce his ABs in 2023 but if managed properly shouldn’t overall limit his overall prospects.

A lot of people seem excited about Mancini and I’m not entirely sure why.

I think they can find the ABs and spread them around with platoons at 1B, LF and DH but now really curious who may be DFA’d as a result of this. Prepare for a ton of lip service about how great the team chemistry and clubhouse will be in 2023.

It seems like they built a pretty likable team. Not sure that will translate to wins, but at least there's a lot of good dudes on the roster.

I mean, he's good for 20 HRs and the team needs offense. Not everyone is sold on Mervis, might be Micah Hoff 2.0.

Yeah, I think part of the Mancini appeal is he had an incredible season before his cancer diagnosis, and then won a comeback player of the year award when he returned. At 30, he's still in the prime of his career, or close to it.

I wonder why the terms of the Fulmer signing have yet to be released. Maybe there’s something in the medicals holding things up?

For the past several seasons, it seems like the Cubs have been great at assembling solid bullpens from a few solid veterans, coupled with scraps and retreads. Concerned that Cubs formula may not have the pieces necessary good bullpen results this season. Lack of proven closer and lefty options are some obvious missing pieces
