QUOTE Orioles, Corey Patterson Agree To Terms
By Tim Dierkes [April 20, 2010 at 4:13pm CST]

Outfielder Corey Patterson has agreed to terms with the Orioles, reports MASN's Roch Kubatko. He'll report to extended spring training.

Patterson joined the Orioles in a January '06 trade with the Cubs, and was fairly useful in two seasons.

At 2-12, the Orioles need a lot more than Corey Patterson.

Jermaine Dye is available.
I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

The Astros, who started out 0-8, now are only one game behind the Cubs. All of the Reds six wins, have come in their last AB. They had to blow a 9-3 lead to pull that off today.
I like you guys a lot.

The Orioles would be wise to ink Dye to fill their LF hole with a professional hitter, ink Corey as insurance, and make a deal for a middle infielder that can hit over .225 (their current best production from 2nd or SS). They aren't going to beat the Yankees, Rays, or Red Sox in 162 games (or likely even a 4 game series), but the organization should at least make the attempt to create the illusion of trying to field a competitive team. Whenever Pie is healthy again, they could use Dye in the DH role and to spell Markakis in RF. Hardly a frivolous expendature.

The Brewers are absolutely annihilating the Pirates right now. Fielder his first homer of the year, Braun a 3-run homer, Edmonds just hit a 3-run homer, now some dude hits one off the wall. It's 16-0 in the top of the 7th.

Speaking of Edmonds, he also posed on a flyball that bounced 5 feet in front of the wall at the 410 feet for a double, but you won't hear anything about that.

That was my main problem with the media reaction to Soriano. Not that Soriano was right to pose and end up on 2nd instead of third, but that if MLB managers pulled a guy from the lineup every time they didn't run out of the box, there wouldn't be anyone left to play.

I know the Brewers' pen is shaky, but I'm liking their chances to hold this 20-0 lead in the 9th.

And that's the series: Brewers 36, Pirates 1.

Hopefully Dempster hits Braun the first time he comes up. Beyond being a colostomy bag, he's been red hot.
I got nothin'.

Can a team "slump" for 18 straight years? Isn't that an out-an-out slouch?

They made the right move by getting rid of that clubhouse distraction, Barry Bonds.
He wanted big money and he was a jerk!
Much more harmonious in the locker room now.

Felipe Lopez to DL; Cardinals recall Tyler Greene

QUOTE The Cardinals placed infielder Felipe Lopez on the 15-day disabled list on Monday because of a right elbow injury, recalling infielder Tyler Greene from Triple-A Memphis to take his place. St. Louis also sent outfielder Allen Craig to Memphis and recalled outfielder Jon Jay.

Lopez, 29, has been dealing with discomfort in his throwing elbow since the Cardinals' April 11 game in Milwaukee. However, manager Tony La Russa has said that Lopez didn't notify the club of any problem until after he started on April 19, two days after he pitched in the 20-inning St. Louis loss to the Mets. Lopez appeared in all three games of the Cardinals' just-ended weekend series in San Francisco, so the move cannot be backdated.

If I had been asked before the season when Trevor Hoffman would reach 600 saves, I would have said mid-May, at the latest.

QUOTE Trevor Hoffman was rocked for five runs and two homers in the ninth inning of Tuesday's 7-3 loss to the Pirates.
Staked to a 3-2 lead in the ninth, it didn't take long for Hoffman to melt down. A leadoff homer by Ronny Cedeno tied the game. Hoffman got an out, but allowed two hits before an intentional walk loaded the bases for Ryan Doumit, who smacked a grand slam to right field. Hoffman has now blown three saves and is now 1-2 with an ugly 13.50 ERA and 2.00 WHIP. He's allowed five homers in eight innings. Yeah, it's just April. But one wonders how much longer Milwaukee will put up with his ineffectiveness in the ninth inning.
