MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)

I wish I could hear Vin Scully everyday.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I'm watching too. He's in a league of his own, and no one even comes close. He may be 80 years old or so, but he's a still sharp. "Just outside the zone and and so the deuces are wild, 2 balls, 2 strikes, 2 out and a runner on a second and Kershaw is set at the belt." Classic Vinny.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I've mentioned this 30 times, but I might as well bore you new guys with it: one time I got to do an inning in the booth with Scully at Dodger Stadium. He was great. Drysdale was awesome. Just a great experience.

End of Big Gabby moment.

How did you swing that?

Coolness.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

Actually, there was a contest; you sent in a cassette tape (remember those?) in which you described an inning, or an at-bat or something, announcer-style. I think mine involved Strawberry hitting a GW HR. I kind of did a Jack Brickhouse-influenced thing.

A fringe benefit was being allowed to mingle down on the field and in the dugout before the game. I recall Brett Butler being especially nice. A fun night, obviously.

That's awesome. Was that during Think Blue Week?

My dad has always wanted to try to get into their deal with the umpires that is similar. We had an old family friend who was a season ticket holder, and he wrote a long, sob & pity story about him being on death's door. Needless to say, the healthy bastard through out the first pitch at a game during all their fan festivities.

LaTroy is up to his old tricks again tonight, giving up 3 runs and the game in the 8th inning. The Brewers pen is in about the same shape ours is.

Carlos Silva and Roy Halladay both have an ERA under 1. Go figure.

Halladay's is actually 1.13
Silva's is almost half of that at 0.69

My mistake. I could have sworn Halladay was at 0.56 on ESPN yesterday. That was probably before last night's game.
