MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
If you can't live a very pleasant life with $18 million bucks in the bank, you're hopeless anyway.
I probably would have taken the cash too.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

I want to pay no taxes too.
This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

?
If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

Yeah, good point. Ok, $9 million in the bank. Still a tidy sum.
Or $5 Million in the bank plus a mansion the live in, a Ferrari and a Dodge Ram truck in the driveway, a great wardrobe, top-of-the-line furnishings, a damn nice house for your parents a mile away, and a cool boat.

Plus, there will most likely be tens of millions in future earnings, just in case he blows the first $9 mil on whiskey and hookers.

He should be set, either way.

Harden's completely lost the strike zone, more than 90 pitches in the fourth and he's out of the game. Shame.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
That sounds familiar.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

Box-score line du jour -- a Rich Harden classic vs. Tor.: 3 2/3 IP 1 H 3 R 1 ER 5 BB 8 K 1 HBP 1 HR. At least he was unhittable. Uh, right?<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I was totally wrong about offering him arbitration. There's no way I could put up with that for $7+ MM.

Right now, I'd rather pay him 7 million for one year in the pen over Grabow at the same price for 2 years.

I'm sure everyone has heard this by now.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->The deal buys out all three arbitration seasons and one free agent year, and has a $13MM club option on another. SI's Jon Heyman tweets that Gallardo can void the club option by obtaining points based on Cy Young voting. The contract is a bit loaded toward the front, with the free agent year costing only $11.25MM.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

As long as he can stay healthy (yeah, yeah, that can be said for every player), I like this deal for both parties.

You guys see this weird shit:

TAMPA, Florida (AP)—Wanda Wilson settled into her box seat, surrounded by 20 family members and friends, to watch her son Denard Span(notes) bat first for the Minnesota Twins.

Look out!

In a shocking split-second, Span hit a hard foul ball that struck his mother in the upper chest. She was treated by paramedics and back in the stands minutes later.

I saw that. I never knew that a foul ball off of Manny Mota's bat killed a boy back in 1970.
