MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
King Felix expected to sign a 5 year $80 MM deal for Marniers according to ESPN's Olney.

How did he get the name "King"? I mean he's a good pitcher but I don't know if he's the best. I also saw that ESPN reported it as "King Felix" getting the deal instead of Felix Hernandez. It's not like he's Magic Johnson and if I wasn't an avid baseball follower I would probably not even know who they were talking about.

I would have gone with Prince Felix or Czar Felix myself.

QUOTE The Brewers reached an agreement with lefty Doug Davis on a one-year, $5.25MM deal, reports MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. The contract pays $4.25MM in '10 and has a $6.5MM mutual option for '11 with a $1MM buyout. Another $1MM in incentives can be earned each year.

Davis joins Randy Wolf as the second addition to the Brewers' rotation this winter. Yovani Gallardo will lead the group, with Dave Bush and Jeff Suppan/Manny Parra rounding out the back end.

Decent signing. Much needed depth for their rotation.

Leave everything to Rudy.

Did Edmonds already announce that he wanted to play again this year? I saw an article today so I wasn't sure if I just missed it elsewhere.

On a slightly brighter note, the rest of the division (outside of the Reds) have crushed him over his career.
I got nothin'.

2/16? Not too bad, I guess. If he blows away from Taint Louis (which I suspect will happen), they could dump him pretty easily.

Royals sign Rick Ankiel - $3.25 MM for 2010, $6 MM mutual option for 2011.

Mets get Gary Matthews Jr. from the Angels. According to SI, the Angels will be paying for the majority of the $23 MM remaining on the contract.

My original guess is that Beltran is either more hurt than they are reporting or that the Mets just want to end the relationship with him.

If the Angels are basically picking up the contract, the move appears to provide a low risk back up while Beltran is injured. Pagan played pretty well for the Mets last year so who knows?
