MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
Strasburg looks good in the first couple of innings. Throwing some dirty curves and hitting 99 mph.

Our old friend Jerome Williams is apparently back in baseball with the Angels, and had a no-hitter through 5 tonight.

I saw that. Can't believe he's still pitching.

Carpenter signs 2 year $21 MM extension. Believe that Carpenter had a $15 MM option with a $1 MM buyout for 2012 so for an extra $5 MM the Cards have him for another year.

Cards have Wainwright, Carpenter and Garcia set for 2012.

Not certain if Lohse or Westbrook are under contract for 2012. Believe there were rumblings regarding signing Jackson for 2012 but like the 2012 season that will come down to the Fat Albert situation

They should make that an ongoing "fan" thing. I'd pay $50 to blast a bucket of balls from that vantage point.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

Detroit... kinda good.

White Sux... kinda shitty.
Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.

Their failure, with a payroll as big as ours, has been the only thing that has made this season even remotely enjoyable. And the "All In" campaign was comedy gold. And Guillen probably punched his ticket out of town with this.

Cardinals just re-upped Berkman. 1 year, $12 million.

So what does that make the market for Ramirez?
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.

Note that I said that in the 2nd inning or so of that game tonight. He went on to strike out 11 over 5 innings and not allow a run. Most strikeouts by a pitcher in 5 innings or less against the Yankees ever. And that's his first major league start.

I've seen all of this dude's outings now... an effortless looking 93-97(got up to 99 out of the pen), with plenty of other plus pitches(his change is especially impressive). The only thing that will prevent him from being a superstar is health of course, and there's nothing in his delivery to expect that to be an issue.
