The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

"Bolstering" their bullpen?

Awesome.

I like that deal for the Giants, that's super cheap. He rarely hit over 89 mph last year but maybe he wasn't 100% or something. More likely it's just because he's old, but we'll see how his velocity looks in a few months.

2.74, 2.47, 3.17, 3.32, 5.35. Quite a jump in ERA.

Anyway, if Howry can do well for them, and they also added Affeldt, that's one hell of a pitching staff. Wilson at the end, Lincecum, Cain, Lowry... pretty good. Sanchez has electric stuff as well but fell apart in the 2nd half last year(8-5, 3.97 in the 1st half... 1-7, 7.47 in the 2nd half). Unfortunately they also have arguably the biggest free agent bust ever for starting pitchers in Zito.

Wow, 1 year 2.75? Guess it's good we didn't offer him arbitration.

This seems like a lot for David Ross

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Looking to improve the production they received from their backup catchers last year, the Braves are close to signing Dave Ross to a two-year deal worth approximately $3.5 million. Ross confirmed the signing could come as early as Thursday.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Khalil Greene close to being traded, more on Howry, and Pedroia signs an extension:

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->The New York Post reports that the Padres are close to trading Khalil Greene to an undisclosed team.
It's believed that they've pffered him around to the Orioles and Tigers, but they were having trouble finding a deal they liked. St. Louis and Kansas City could be possibilities here. Dec. 3 - 9:36 pm et<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Giants signed RHP Bob Howry, who had been with the Cubs, to a one-year, $2.75 million contract.
Howry can earn up to $4.25 million, but that would involve him taking over the closer's role from Brian Wilson pretty early in the season. If he makes 75 appearances, which he's done three of the last four years, he'll earn $3.25 million. It's another nice relief signing for the Giants. Howry had a 5.32 ERA last season, but he was right around 3.00 each of the previous four years and he's been extremely durable since returning from elbow surgery in 2004. He should be a fine setup man. Dec. 3 - 4:07 pm et<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Red Sox signed second baseman Dustin Pedroia to a six-year, $40.5 million contract with a club option for 2105.
Pedroia will receive a $1.5 million signing bonus, $1.5 million in 2009, $3.5 million in 2010, $5.5 million in 2011, $8 million in 2012, $10 million in 2013 and $10 million in 2014. The 2015 option, which would be voided if Pedroia is traded, is worth $11 million and includes a $500,000 buyout. It could rise to $13 million if Pedroia wins another MVP or finishes in the top three twice. This looks like a flat-out steal for the Red Sox. With good health, the 25-year-old Pedroia stood to make at least $30 million in his three arbitration years and then probably $20 million minimum in his first two years of free agency. He may have nowhere to go but down after winning ROY and MVP awards in consecutive seasons, but it should be a fun ride. Dec. 3 - 3:05 pm et<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

To update that Greene rumor, he's a Cardinal(it sounds like).
<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->In a continuing attempt to reduce payroll, the Padres were closing in on trading their starting shortstop, Khalil Greene to the Cardinals. Greene is due $6.5 million next year in the final season of his contract.

The expectation is that Greene will be moved even before the Winter Meetings start in Las Vegas on Monday. The Cardinals are said to be giving up two relief prospects to obtain Greene, sources tell The Post.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Awesome. Greene is absolutely horrible. I welcome him to the Cardinals.

Granted, if the Padres are getting bullpen guys from the Cards, they aren't getting much in return. The Cardinals bullpen was horrible last year. If they had any prospects worth a damn, they would have been on the MLB roster.
I got nothin'.

I'm sure you're right. My guess is the Pads would almost literally take nothing in return if the other team took all of Greene's salary.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Edgar Renteria and the Giants have agreed to terms on a two-year contract that could be finalized as soon as Thursday.
According to the newspaper, Renteria underwent a physical Wednesday. No word yet on the contract details, but last month Renteria was said to be on the verge of signing a two-year, $18 million deal with San Francisco.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->According to the New York Daily News, the Giants are "contemplating" making an offer to CC Sabathia in excess of $100 million.
There's no indication that the Giants will approach the Yankees' reported $140 million proposal, but Sabathia is from California and the New York Post reportedly previously that his wife would like him to pitch in San Francisco.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

How beautiful would it be if the Giants got Sabathia and his arm fell apart? They would then be the owners of two of the biggest busts in FA SP history.
