MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
Todd Stottlemyre the Dbacks' pitching coach. His dad's been a good one for years of course.

Edit: It's apparently Mel Jr., not Todd.

Not the best day for the Dodgers. Not only did the Manny news come out, they've blown a 6-0 lead to the Nats. It's 9-6 Nats now, still 2 on, only 1 out in the 8th. Boos are out.

Mo Rivera allowed back to back jacks for the first time in his career last night.

A-Rod's first swing... 3-run bomb.

Mo Rivera is a one-pitch guy. That pitch will get him into the Hall Of Fame, but when that one pitch isn't working, it's batting practice time.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

Braun Hit in "Head"

Clip of the pitch. I hadn't seen it until just now.

The more I see that, the more I can't believe the ump said it hit him. It wasn't even that close.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

It sure looks like it hit his bat. Either way, there are 2 things that make it pretty obvious that wasn't intentional. 1. It wasn't a fast ball. 2. Had Braun not been bending down to bunt, he would not have been hit. It would have been high and tight, but he would have been able to get out of the way.
I got nothin'.

It was a slider/curveball, that slipped and hit him in the bat.

Ludwick left the game in the 2nd inning with a hamstring strain.

Damn, Halladay is good.
There's little debate as to who the best everyday player is, but there's a pretty good debate about who's MLB's best pitcher. I've always been a Santana guy, but Halladay has consistently faced stronger competition. Young guys like Greinke and Lincecum, Hamels...there are really some artists out there.

The next 5 years will be hell in the NL for the Cy Young. Johan, Lincecum, Hamels, Z, Peavy, Webb, Billingsly and Gallardo are getting to, or are already in their prime. Yikes.
