5-1 with a a 2.02 ERA last year. Wassup?

Not sure honestly. I'd like to see one more experienced arm in the bullpen. I think they were mostly waiting for the price to come down and with Reyes agreeing to only 1.5 mill per year guaranteed, perhaps Beimel can be had for even less.

Glad the Dodgers got the Manny deal done before this came out....

ESPN is trying to out-scoop everyone these days, therefore getting it wrong much more.

QUOTE Giants released outfielder Dave Roberts.
San Francisco opted to eat his $6.5 million salary rather than keep Roberts around as a fifth outfielder. While the deal was overshadowed by the more horrific Juan Pierre and Gary Matthews Jr. signings of two years ago, Roberts still proved to be a big waste of money for the Giants. He'll have to catch on as a fifth outfielder elsewhere. Eugenio Velez would seem to be the big beneficiary here, as he can pick up the outfield time that would have gone to Roberts.

That was a bad signing at the time, and now it looks positively Zito-esque.
Not only has Sabean lost his fastball, he looks like late-2008 Howry these days.

I'm starting to wonder if both he and Dusty Baker were quite a bit overrated at the time, simply because they had a guy on the roster who was putting up Babe Ruth/Michael Jordan-type production?

QUOTE Vladimir Guerrero admitted Friday that he is one year older than his listed age of 33.
Guerrero, who rarely talks to the media, replied in spanish to a quote from manager Mike Scioscia about how his knee surgery might have turned the clock back a couple of years on his legs: "I feel good. I can’t say [like] 25, because, you know, I’m 34. But I feel a lot better. That’s where I’m at right now." The Angels later confirmed the news. Frankly, we always assumed Vlad was two or three years older than his listed age, so this qualifies as good news. His cousin, former Expos prospect Cristian Guerrero, was found to have lied about his birthdate during the agegate scandal of 2002. Mar. 6 - 6:37 pm et

QUOTE According to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch, Alex Rodriguez has decided to undergo surgery to repair his torn hip labrum.
The "hybrid" procedure will take place on Monday and has a recovery time of six to nine weeks. This surgery won't fully fix A-Rod's injury, but it should allow him to play for most of the 2009 season. He'll get another procedure next winter. "The goal here is to allow Alex to rehab rapidly in a safe manner," said Dr. Marc Philippon at the Steadman-Hawkins clinic for sports medicine and orthopedic surgery. "The approach we're using is much safer than letting Alex play the way he is now."

Looks like Arod will be in town here on Monday.

That's A-Rod with some random lady in Vail. He looks thrilled! Not quite as much as Greg Oden does with this fan though:

Mariners sign Chad Cordero to a minor league contract. He's had arm issues, wonder if he'll ever be what he used to be. He's still only 26.
