Orlando Cabrera to the A's. 1 year 4 million.

Great deal for the A's. They could easily win the AL West, although their pitching looks questionable.

Schilling is not a HOFer IMO....but I would gladly take him as our 5th starter.

They've improved nicely...but I can't see them beating the Angels at all.
I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

The Angels won't be as good but I agree, they're still likely much better than those teams. The A's have been known to surprise though, so who knows.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Looper might open on DL
By Tom Haudricourt of the Journal Sentinel
Mar. 3, 2009 11:45 a.m.

Phoenix - Right-hander Braden Looper, signed before the start of spring camp to provide depth in the pitching rotation, might open the season on the DL for the Brewers.

Manager Ken Macha just told us that medical personnel have opted to take a conservative approach with Looper, who suffered tightness in his left oblique while warming up in the bullpen Saturday for his first spring start (he actually first felt a twinge while sneezing a few days before).

Macha said Looper will not be allowed to throw for 10-12 days. Once he is cleared to do that, he'll have to go back through the progression of throwing bullpen sessions to get ready to pitch. That process probably will not allow him enough time to build up his arm to be ready for the regular season.

"We may have to be prepared for getting somebody else ready (for the rotation)," said Macha.

Macha said right-hander Seth McClung will fill Looper's spot in the rotation in the interim. McClung was slated to be in the rotation before Looper signed a $4.75 million free agent deal before the start of camp.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Looks like they will sign Nomar now too.

Cabrera is pretty mediocre and if they're expecting anything out of Nomar beyond a backup role, I don't see how this helps them much. Honestly, I don't see the A's being that much better than last season. They're probably a .500 team at best.

It's actually a secret suspension by the MLB.

Lots of conflicting reports out now. Anything from rehab and a few weeks to his brother saying he's gonna have surgery which would sideline him as much as 4 months..

Glad the Dodgers got the Manny deal done before this came out....

Yeah, didn't Utley have that same sort of hip thing? A-Rod could be out for a long while, and that's exactly the kind of news that could have pushed the Yanks into the Manny biddings.

Hey Gad, what's the deal with Joe Beimel? He seemed pretty dang good, but yer Dodgers apparantly don't like him, and he's unsigned, which seems strange.
5-1 with a a 2.02 ERA last year. Wassup?
