What do you guys think it would take to pick up Bourn and would it be worth it?

I don't want him. Career OPS+ of 90 and he'll be 30 in a month.
If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

It says no hormones. I doubt he is interested.

Haren apparently is signing with the Nats for $13m on a one year deal.

Believe that is about the amount the Cubs would have paid him and traded away Marmol.
Haren is looking for a spot to re-establish his market value prior to hitting free agency next year. The Nats should provide him all the exposure he needs. If he's healthy, watch out.

I'd love to have a go at him next season if we look to be turning the corner by then.
I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

Depends on what your definition of "turning the corner"? Would 62 wins be enough? How about 75 or 81?
Cubs are most likely going to have to spend on free agent starters and trade for them to become competitive within the next few seasons.

I really wish that deal for Haren was made. Haren is someone we can dream on. He has/had #1 stuff and results in the not so distant past. He's still youngish. I wonder how much of Marmol's money we would have been on the hook for if that trade was completed?

Why do I feel like all of the recent changes to the draft rules and all that shit were put in place solely to fuck over the Cubs?

Probably because Reinsdorf was supposedly the leader of the faction of owners that wanted the spending caps on drafting in the new CBA coupled with increases in luxury tax. One of the effects of the CBA is freezing the amount of talent an organization accumulates outside of free agent acquisitions - which the Cubs aren't doing because their minor league system was in such a shambles in 2010 so the CBA specifically screws a team like the Cubs.
Now, you wouldn't think that a guy like Reinsdorf or Bud Selig who's family interest compete directly against the Cubs would consider their competitive position via other MLB teams when drafting and lobbying for changes in the CBA? Was it the primary rationale for lobbying for these changes? Probably not but it was most likely considered.
My guess is that the changes to CBA increased the amount of time required for the Cubs being competitive by 1 to 2 years. Why? Theo knew how to work within the prior system and Cubs were already makng significant changes in drafts - big increase to international budget - prior to changes to CBA without this avenue available, Cubs - along with all the other teams - will have to work along with others to acquire talent via traditional means and discover new methods to work within the CBA to acquire talent but these will take additional time.
