David Whitley of the Orlando Sentinel reports that Curt Schilling would be interested in coming back to baseball to pitch for either the Chicago Cubs or the Tampa Bay Rays. Writes Whitley:
Schilling, who has a career mark of 216-146, said money would not be a major issue. He's looking for a team that has championship potential and has never won a title. "The challenge would be in a place like Tampa Bay or Chicago," he said.

As a 5th/6th starter, I don't see why not, especially when Harden misses time.

That's how I feel. If he doesn't have much left, oh well. We cut him and go with what we were going to before. If he still has something left, he'll help us greatly, and say a pitcher or two went down with an injury... this is one of the best postseason pitchers of all time. The only feasible reason somebody could not want this is because they don't like Schilling, and to that I say who fucking cares. Nobody liked Edmonds either. It's about winning.

I can't quite put my finger on it exactly, it just seems very egotistical, like he wants to be some sort of savior for a pitiful franchise like the Cubs.

Well, he has led 1 team to it's first championship and another to it's first championship in like 8 decades.

Also, if those are the two teams that he's sort of zeroed in on, I'd think we have the big edge(if the Cubs are open to bringing him in). The Rays have Shields, Kazmir, Garza, Price, and Sonnanstine. He's sure as hell not getting a job over the first four. Sonnanstine is solid himself as he won 13 games with a 4.53 ERA in 193 innings pitched last year, and he's just turning 26 in the next few weeks. So the Rays aren't looking to replace him.
Sign Schilling, make Marshall the swing man where he gives us 2 lefties in the bullpen and will still make 15-25 starts, and trade Guzman to a shitty team more concerned about the future than this year for an infielder.

Is there any idea when he could be ready? I mean would he be ready in a month or two or is this a Smoltz type situation where he could help out after the All-Star break?

Sign him at the trade deadline and see what he's got. If he's got it, then you've got one of the best postseason pitchers on the planet.
