Even though they're minor league deals, that's hilarious

I found it very funny as well. A Dusty move, no doubt.

QUOTE REDS KEEP OUTFIELDER'S DREAM ALIVE (2:55 p.m. ET)
Four years ago Adam Greenberg, then a Cubs rookie, was hit in the head on the first pitch of his only at bat in the major leagues. Greenberg suffered a concussion and persistent vertigo after being hit by Marlins southpaw Valerio de los Santos and has since struggled to restore his career.

Dusty Baker was Chicago's manager back then. Now the Reds, Baker's current employer, have invited Greenberg to their minor league camp, a source told ESPN. The outfielder, who turned 28 on Saturday, has played for the Dodgers, Royals and Angels organizations the last three years since his release by the Cubs in June 2006. He has not made it beyond Double-A ball since the '05 accident.

Greenberg and Fred Van Dusen of the 1955 Phillies are the only two players in major league history to have been hit by a pitch without ever having another at bat or appearance in the field.

There's no way that Dusty should be managing an MLB club.
That said, I think it's cool what he's doing with Greenberg. That poor guy got a bad shake.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

I'm just surprised there's another player in baseball history that has a HBP in his one and only PA.

QUOTE At 8:30 p.m. tonight, the Dodgers made the rather unusual move of issuing a statement that shows their exasperation with Manny Ramirez's agent, Scott Boras:

BORAS REJECTS DODGERS
OFFER TO MANNY RAMIREZ

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers today received a letter from Scott Boras, the agent for Manny Ramirez, rejecting the offer that the club made yesterday. This rejection is the fourth by the agent in the club’s attempts to sign Manny.

“We love Manny Ramirez,” said Dodgers Owner Frank McCourt, “And we want Manny back, but we feel we are negotiating against ourselves. When his agent finds those ‘serious offers’ from other clubs, we’ll be happy to re-start the negotiations.

“Even with an economy that has substantially eroded since last November, out of respect for Manny and his talents, we actually improved our offer.

“So now, we start from scratch.”

It's interesting to note that the Dodgers aim their venom at Boras, even though ostensibly Boras is working for Ramirez. Of course, the natural explanations for this are 1) the Dodgers need to stay on Ramirez' good side in the event he does end up with the team, and 2) doubt about who's boss in the Boras-Ramirez relationship.

I just hope he doesn't sign with the Dodgers, because if he does, he'll kick our ass again in the playoffs.

It's now coming out that Manny would have accepted the strait 2/45 deal that was being reported in the media. Problem is the deal was apparently 10 mill this year, 10 mill next year with the remaining 25 mill deferred with NO interest.

Boras has now announced Manny will accept the deal if the deferred payments are removed.

Seems like pretty shady dealing by the Dodgers. They were very public about their offer without ever mentioning the deferred payments and then they tried to make Boras look like the bad guy with the press release when they were never being truthful about the actual terms of the offer.

Can you imagine being in the position to scoff at an offer like that?

These guys are so far removed from reality.

The deferred payments are the ONLY reason to reject the deal.(Yet another reason to call McCourt and Colletti a tandem of douchebags).

Other than that, I don't know what Boras is waiting for. Texas, Toronto, San Fran etc, are not going to magically comprise an offer of $80M.

He's alienated himself as an agent so much with this, it's crazy. I don't know why anyone would want to represented by him. This is 2 straight years that he has flopped. Remember, A-Rod supposedly signed that Yankee deal without Boras.
