QUOTE The answer is that free agent right-hander Ben Sheets may need surgery to repair the torn flexor tendon in his elbow, and his former employers may be asked to pick up the tab. Brewers assistant general manager Gord Ash said on Thursday that the team has been in discussions this week with Sheets' agent and officials from Major League Baseball about who would pay for the procedure.

"We're working our way through all of the details and we don't know the answer yet," Ash said. "Major League Baseball has regulations related to workers comp and there are procedures and protocols that have to be respected. We're working our way through those so I can't give you much insight other than that."

The Texas Rangers and Sheets reached an agreement on a two-year contract late last week and only a physical stood in the way of the deal being completed. But everything changed once it was determined that Sheets had a torn flexor tendon that might require surgery.

Probably because we didn't know he had a torn flexor tendon in his elbow?

I think Clapp is talking about the fact that we already have Harden who is a china doll himself. Why would we want to have 2 pitchers who will miss 10-15 starts a piece?

They're saying he is having surgery for sure with Dr. Andrews and will be out until August at least.

Give him a Dempster type-contract then

It's gonna be great watching the entire 2006 Cubs team reunited in Cinci this season.

QUOTE SI.com's Jon Heyman talked to Sheets' agent Casey Close, who said his client will have elbow surgery. Sheets hopes for a July or August return. Tom Haudricourt says Sheets expects the Brewers to pay for the procedure.

Ed Wade is still whining about the 2 game series in Milwaukee pretty much ruining the Astros' season. You dicklesses finished 11 games back, shut the fuck up.

I was getting kind of excited about giving Fontenot a chance to start everyday but I'd have absolutely no problem with the O-Dog.

BTW, the ownership situation is fucking getting to my nerves...

O-Dog's always been one of my favorite players but I can't see it happening when we already have two second basemen. Orlando's going to be an everyday starter so then Fontenot would only play a few times a month, and the Miles signing would really not make sense. He CAN play a few positions, but he's a second baseman.

Andruw Jones agreed to a minor league deal with the Rangers.

Ryan Howard just signed a 3 year, $54 mil contract. $15/$19/$20.

Last year he was .251/.339/.543 with 199 K's. But 48 hr and 146 rbi speak for themselves. Though if he's worth 18 mil, what is a guy that does those same production numbers but hits for average and gets on base worth? Pujols will only be getting $16 mil the next 3 years.
I got nothin'.

Good move, absolutely no risk and what are they paying? 500,000, I think. Good move.

QUOTE The value of the contract would be $500,000 if Jones makes the big-league roster with incentives that could play Jones $1 million if he plays regularly. Jones can opt out of his contract with the Rangers on March 20.

Good read on Stephen Strasburg

QUOTE Strasburg is now considered the consensus No. 1 pick in this June's amateur draft. Washington Nationals General Manager Jim Bowden, whose team just so happens to pick first overall, calls Strasburg "as good a pitcher as we've seen in the draft in 10 or 15 years."

*If* Fontenot could play adequate SS, then it would make some sense. I'm assuming Miles and Fontenot could also back up the corner OF spots in a pinch. Ironically, the guy signing O-Dog might make obsolete is Joey Gathright. That's weird.
