MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
Dodgers offer Manny 1/25, and they're the leader for Wolf apparently. Rosenthal says Looper is their backup plan.

The LA Times is reporting that Manny has already rejected the 1/25 offer.

I want the guy back but there are some awfully good players looking for jobs and this guy has now shot down 2/45 and now 1/25 deals.

Not sure who is gonna give him more than that...

The Dodgers could probably sign Sheets, Wolf and Dunn for what Manny wants.. Makes you wonder...

Then wheres he going to sign? San Fran? The Dodgers don't want that.

Manny created a fever around the team and especially the fans last year. They'll sell a shitload of tickets with him there and keep the Dodgers as the team to watch in LA. More importantly, I think they're a better team than they would be with those 3 guys for example. Sheets and Wolf are always hurt, and we saw how big of an impact Dunn had on the Dbacks. Manny carried the Dodgers into the playoffs and gave them a 2nd half and run to the NLCS that will be long remembered. They should hand him whatever he wants and give him a statue outside the stadium.

I don't think thats realistic in this market.. I also don't think anyone is gonna top 2/45. I could be wrong but Boras has yet to budge on his 4/100 demand. I think if they showed ANY willingness to compromise the Dodgers would meet them halfway but so far it hasn't happened. I don't care how amazing the guy is you can't throw him 3/75 when some very good players are willing to sign for 5-8 million.

Ultimately I think McCourt is broke and this is just a ploy to make it looked like he tried hard to sign Manny. The Dodgers are currently on par to shave close to 50 million from last years payroll which is particularly scary when you consider that 28 million of the payroll committed is going to Pierre, Schmidt and Andruw Jones. The guys who actually take the field will be making roughly 40 million assuming a chunk of cash isn't given to Manny.

I don't think they'll have to give him anything like those 3 or 4 years. The Giants for example wouldn't be realistically a chance unless Manny lowers his demands, in which case you'd assume he'd just sign with the Dodgers. Heyman said on Hot Stove he sees no chance whatsoever that the Mets are in on it. Would he really go to the Nats? I don't think so. I'm just saying, for 1 year in 25 million or 2/45, they should do it and nobody's going to top that.

Whoa, Clemens did steroids? All this time I've been thinking he's innocent.

This is where, in my dream world, the Ricketts deal goes through, and he gives Hendry the green light to sign Manny.

I hope that doesn't happen. Griffey was one of my favorite non-Cubs for a long time and now he has the White Sox taint on him. I've always liked Abreu, too. It would be nice if he didn't get the taint...

I'm really starting to dislike Manny, by the way.

Looks like the guys who held out til late in the off-season are the ones who are going to get screwed over in this market. Seems like guys are going for far cheaper now than they were at the start of the off-season.

A couple months ago we heard Abreu wanted 3/45, and now he has an offer for 1/8? Wow.

And what's interesting is the pitchers are still going for normal price or close to it. I can't imagine Oliver Perez getting much more than 12 million bucks in other years for example.

Meanwhile, the Nats have made an offer to Dunn. Should be interesting to see what he goes for. If it's just a 1 year deal I'd give Abreu more than him, and if this is what Abreu's getting, man...

I can't see Abreu taking a deal like that until the Manny situation plays out. You have to assume that the same teams linked to Manny (Dodgers, Giants, Mets) would be happy to take a flyer on Abreu if they don't sign Ramirez.
