I'm 100% fine with this. I'm just glad there's an actual plan in place that isn't, "Let's load up on retreads and hope we get lucky." I'm a little tired of that plan.

A herd of buffalo can move only as fast as the slowest buffalo. When the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

In much the same way the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

QUOTE The feeling I've had since I got the call is a feeling I suspect will never go away. I'm told it never does. It's the highest high you can imagine. I wish you all could feel what I feel standing here. This is my last big game. This is my last big at-bat. This is my last time catching the final out. I dreamed of this as a child but I had too much respect for baseball to think this was ever possible. I believe it is because I had so much respect for the game and respect for getting the most out of my ability that I stand here today. I hope others in the future will know this feeling for the same reason: Respect for the game of baseball. When we all played it, it was mandatory. It's something I hope we will one day see again.

Thank you, and go Cubs.

QUOTE Owner Mark Attanasio just said the Brewers already are in the $80 million to $85 million area in terms of projected payroll for 2009, taking into account future deals to be struck with arbitration players and others.

That's already higher than the Brewers' Opening Day payroll of last year, which was right around $80 million.

Accordingly, Attanasio said the team has to way the up side of signing another starting pitcher now against the down side of having no financial flexibility.

"If we add a starter now and get (beyond) the mid 80s and have some negative events, that would be a first for us," said Attanasio.

In other words, don't expect the Brewers to sign a starting pitcher who costs a lot of money between now and spring training.

QUOTE The Dodgers, seeking to replenish their rotation, have the inside track on signing free-agent left-hander Randy Wolf, according to major-league sources.

Jake Peavy Ken Rosenthal and our MLB crew have you covered. Check out all the news and notes from the hot stove.

The signing of Wolf, most likely to a one- or two-year deal, would deprive the Mets of a leading alternative to their top choice, free-agent lefty Oliver Perez.

QUOTE The Astros sought to retain Wolf, but he rejected their three-year, $28.5 million offer, according to sources. He is not expected to command nearly as much from the Dodgers.

They're going to lose 90 games.
This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena. [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

Their fans think Wallace has a shot to make the team now. I would think they'll want him to spend some time at the higher levels before bringing him up but we'll see. I figure Freese will get a shot before Wallace. I guess Matt Pagnozzi is Tom Pagnozzi's nephew. So I'm sure he sucks. I also can't wait to see Rasmus tank.

I think people are way too high on Wallace. Orf and some of the other ASU guys might have a better opinion, but he's like 5'9 and super fat. He's a helluva hitter but unless that dude loses a lot of weight, I don't really know where he's going to be able to play adequately in the majors.
