Should be a Hall of Famer.

He's a prick, I would never vote for him.

If Kent gets in...then so should Brett Boone and Alfonso Soriano. And it's safe to say...neither of those two are worthy.
Kent's ONLY claim to fame is his ranking amongst 2B. If this bastard played 1B or 3B or LF, you'd never hear anything about him. May be have a great retirement, out of Cooperstown.

BTW...the only good thing he did was his riff with Barry.
I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

Soriano will end up with more games played in his career in the OF than at 2B, so that comparison is irrelevant.

Bret Boone was nowhere near as good of a hitter as Kent was in their overall careers.

Yeah those really aren't good comparisons at all. Kent is arguably the greatest run producing second baseman of all time, whereas Soriano isn't even a second baseman and Boone only put up a few roid-aided good years.

And to say position doesn't matter is silly. To put up the kind of numbers he did playing a position known for defense-first (and a lot of the time, defense-only), he definitely deserves recognition.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

There's a big debate on MLBTradeRumor's comment section of the Kent blurb about Kent, Biggio and Sandberg.

Kent has more HR, a better OPS, OPS+, more hits, a better AVG, OBP, and SLG than Sandberg. What exactly are we debating here? That Kent should be in or that they should kick Sandberg out?

Ouch. Gad, brother, you just shit on the holy grail.
I'm 100% fine with this. I'm just glad there's an actual plan in place that isn't, "Let's load up on retreads and hope we get lucky." I'm a little tired of that plan.

I'm not saying Sandberg isn't a HoFer. He absolutely is. I'm just saying that Kent was better offensively than Sandberg in just about everey statistical category we have so if you want Sandberg in I don't see how you can make an argument to keep Kent out.

Defense and speed are part of the game too. Sandberg had a career fielding percentage 10 pts higher and won 9 gold gloves. He had 344 stolen bases, Kent had 94. You also have to take eras into consideration as well.

Absolutely. But Kent is quite a bit better offensively and while there are a few guys who got into the Hall on the merits of their defense but it has and always will be primarily a recognition of offensive skills.

Look, I know I'm not winning this argument here, hell I don't even like Kent. But I don't see how you can say he's not a HoFer and Sandberg is.. They are too close. Ryno has the defense, Kent had the better bat. Both won an MVP. Their cases are pretty similar IMO.

I actually agree with you on this.

From the comments I read over there, a lot of the debate was over who was the best of those three guys.

If you saw the Thigh since last night, you saw that Steve Phillips is apparently joining Joe Morgan in the booth for Sunday nights. It's been confirmed today.

By the way, where it says : "Now, I'll admit that I'm not one of the most vocal complainers about the Miller-Morgan pairing", that's linked to my blog.

Oh, and by the way Gad, I think Kent should be in. If it's an either/or thing(which obviously its not but this is a message board so whatever), I take Sandberg.
