Hi,
How about trading Byrd to the Red Sox to fill in for Ellsbury?

The problem is that Marlon Byrd's value will never be lower. I'm not saying he'll get anything more than a mediocre prospect back regardless, but it's a tough situation. Not to mention the Red Sox may not even want him right now, even though he's a terrific defensive CF.
I'd be glad to give him away for nothing and call up Jackson, but if the Cubs didn't trade Byrd in the offseason when they could've gotten something back, they'll likely wait a little bit.

Fuck the Red Sox. And I doubt we'll be making any trades with them anytime soon. Either way, I'm not expecting that Byrd will ever regain much value anyway, so trade him whenever you can.

Hi,
My point was simple. If you could get someone to pay even half of his contract to take him it would be a good deal. They are bitching about the pitcher we sent him for Theo who had surgery. Trade him straight up for Byrd.

I think the BoSox would rather have a bum Carpenter over Byrd.

Hi,
I always thought Carpenter would be a closer down the road. I hated to see him go.

Just to be clear, I meant "bum" as in "injured," not as in "poor player." I believe the Red Sox and Cubs both would see Carpenter as more valuable than Byrd at this point.

Neat bit of trivia: the Dodgers turned the first-ever 2-5-6-3 triple play on the Padres yesterday, much to the chagrin of the Friars, who claimed the batted ball not only to be foul (it appeared to be) but also at first signaled as foul (it appears that the home plate ump raised his arms, indicating a foul ball).

When does Lincecum become a free agent? The Giants have thus far extended Cain, Bumgarner, and are trying to lock up Posey and Lincecum. Realistically can they afford all of them?

Giants just re-signed The Freak to a 2 year deal in January of this year so he's locked up into the 2014 season.
From Cot's Baseball Contracts: - 2 years/$40.5M (2012-13)
- re-signed by San Francisco 1/30/12 (avoided arbitration, $21.5M-$17M)
- $0.5M signing bonus
- 12:$18M, 13:$22M

Just when I thought this season couldn't suck any more, we now have to hear about Phil Humber's perfect game for the next six months.

The Red Sox were winning 8-0 in the 5th, and 8-1 in the 6th, only to see the Yankees score 7 in the 7th and 7 in the 8th. The Red Sox are a half game better than the Cubs right now. It's not pretty.
