Holy fuck.

Two thoughts:

- Good for him -- he absolutely deserves it

- Too bad that the Angels don't ever make the playoffs and he'll likely retire without a World Series appearance

I don't get it. Isn't there such thing as "enough money"? With enough money in the bank, wouldn't any competitor prefer to play on a contending team? I find it very weird. How many generations of his descendants does he need to turn into unproductive layabouts?

I do think to a certain degree it becomes a dick measuring contest. It was important to Harper that he got the biggest contract ever. Maybe Trout felt the same.

It makes me a little sad that Trout will likely never been seen all that much in the playoffs. The greatest player of his generation will finish up his career on a team nobody gives a shit about and might make the playoffs once or twice and then get bounced without much fanfare.

I think a ring is a bigger dick.

I'm not sad that he's a greedy idiot because...he's a greedy idiot. I'm disappointed that he is one. It's pathetic.

I just think it isn't good for the game. I don't want him to go to the Yankees. I just wish the Angels were better or would make a commitment to surround Trout with enough talent to contend. It sucks that the best player in baseball won't be showcased in the playoffs in front of a national audience more often.

That's a choice he's made. No one else is responsible.

But do you think it's the right choice for him to take less money? Is that better for the game or for other players? Can't you make the argument that every player should try to get as much money as possible, within reason? Either Trout is getting paid or Moreno is getting paid...

I think there is a better than 50% chance he is traded to a contender in his early 30s just as ARod and Griffey Jr were. He may wear Yankee pinstripes and earn that ring just yet.

I don't remotely understand the argument that it's bad for baseball that Trout stays with the Angels.

This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

OTOH, it doesn't seem like 2019 will be the year the Angels compete.
