Diving ain't sliding. Not trying to hurt him? Of course not. Not a dirty player? Not for me to say. That was a dirty play.

I don't know how to read that play. It looks awful, but he does look genuinely surprised at the collision. You rarely see someone go inside, but it's possible he thought the ball would beat him, Lucroy would swipe back and so he'd go in and around with a headfirst slide, swiping the plate with his his right hand. Lucroy also moves up the line to get the throw, so they collide sooner than expected.
A suspension is OK with me, it sends a message, and it simply looks too reckless. But it's possible it was an ill-advised attempt to do some sort of creative Javy-style slide around the tag that ended horribly. I say that mainly because it's not year 1 of this, guys know they're going to be out if they're judged to have attempted to blow up the catcher (lowering shoulder or altering path into the catcher). It sucks to be the catcher in this situation, but it sucks to be the runner too, the catcher isn't supposed to block the plate until he has the ball, but they all do, at least with a foot/leg, which makes getting to a flat plate basically the width of the catcher's foot very difficult. Unless they add a running lane, these will still happen, the rule isn't super clear and the plate is too easy to block/too hard to get to.

If I thought he was trying to slide, I'd be fine with the play.

Just noticed that Jim Bouton died. If you've never read Ball Four, do yourself a favor. One of the best baseball books I've ever read.

Maybe somebody's past history shouldn't affect a current baseball offense. But it does, like most other things.

That payroll clearing trade is looking better by the day.

Damn. I really enjoyed reading and listening to him, but this is pretty terrible if true. Fuck him.

Brewers Woodruff headed to IL. Hes been their best starter this season. Its an oblique strain to his left side but throws right handed.

Sogard scratched from lineup,Russell also scratched from lineup. Interesting, interesting.

Nevermind Sogard to Rays. Russell was scratched because his equipment hasnt shown up yet. Hopefully it never will.

Apparently the 4th place Mets are still going for it.

Bauer chucked a ball from the pitcher's mound over the centerfield fence while being taken out of the game after a bad start. That is one hell of a throw. Also, one hell of an asshole.
Meanwhile the Indians are 19 games over .500, 3 games up in the wild card and just 2 back in their division, yet it's assumed they're sellers, at least with him. While the Mets are apparently gearing up for a run. Gotta love baseball. |
