MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)

Me as well.

I might be a terrible person, but if Bryce Harper or Corey Seager or Eric Thames or any other important player for a team competing with the Cubs gets hurt, I'm not going to be too upset about it.

Gotta tell you, it generally doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Me neither. I remember those seasons when we were all on DL and towel-drill watch with Prior and Wood. It sucked, but fans of other teams were hardly sympathetic. Does the game suffer when its stars are not on the field? Sure, but it's just part of the game.

I mean I could have used that douche Braun as the Brewers example but cheering for him to get hurt or die is kind of a given.

Maybe they should lower the mound a bit to help eliminate all the strikeouts?

To me it still seems like they're searching for a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. But I'm a diehard fan -- I know they're worried about losing the casual fans.

I think the notion that we're in an era of max effort pitching and hitting is interesting. I think the dramatic reduction of the number of balls in play is illuminating. I'm not opposed to reducing the time between pitches. That's clearly where the pace of play and length of game issues (such as they are) lie, in my opinion. It's possible that addressing that could have an impact on the way the pitcher/hitter gladiatorial battle has (arguably) negatively evolved.

I'm not sure we can put the genie back in the bottle. Pitchers are throwing harder than ever with the knowledge that they'll likely blow their arm out at least once and it's also likely that after a year on the shelf, they will be as good as new.

I agree with that. I do think making ABs move along at a reasonable clip could increase balls in play.

From the manufacturer's viewpoint, though, this might be some small thing that changed inadvertently.

Well. Looks like the Reds aren't going to be much help tonight.
