I figured he would eventually end up going that route. His lack of managerial experience at any level would give me pause, but I've heard the same thing -- that catchers tend to make good managers.

I could definitely see him as a manager in the future. I'd be hesitant to give anyone the Cubs job without any prior coaching experience.

Well, that seems to be the trend with most teams these days, the Yanks, Cards and Phillies most recently. I don't see the FO handing another $ multi-million deal to a celebrity manager post- Maddon.

Theo didn't want him when they were hiring a manager to replace Quade after 2011. He put up blah numbers with the Phillies and quit in the middle of a losing season. They're not going to pick him to manage a contending team. He's never going to manage again anywhere.
This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.

I don't see Sandberg coaching anywhere ever again. Communication is not his best skill.

He probably won't manage because the new age manager needs to be able to communicate with everyone, press, players, owners.
He's probably not that guy. In my opinion though, Theo didn't want him managing the Cubs in that spot, with that team. If memory serves, he did pretty well managing the Cubs minor league team. I have no idea if he still wants to manage but I don't think his tenure with the Phillies should disqualify him. I remember reading stuff from the guys he managed in the minors and it sounded like they loved him. Probably too hard nosed, Joe Torre type though.

Ross needs to be put in the Cubs' minor-league managing pipeline if he doesn't get the Twins job.
Sandberg will never manage in the majors again.

Not everyone is going to be a good coach. Being a great player doesn't translate to being a great manager. Sandberg completely lost his team in the time he was with Philadelphia. He had players openly disagreeing with his moves and several bench confrontations with players. Ryno is a bit of an old school guy. He wanted everyone to work their asses off every time out, play for your team, not yourself, and concede to all decisions made by the manager. While that will work with some of the players today, that's going to ruffle a lot of feathers.
He stands no chance of being an MLB manager ever again. I'd venture to guess there's a very good chance the Cubs brass already knew his strengths and weaknesses when they opted not to hire him way back when.
