MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
MLB is going to miss a great opportunity.

I'm never the optimist around here, but now more than ever it feels like there is simply no desire for compromise. If the season is lost, baseball might be done.

Done? You think so? I haven't been following close enough to really know.

If all of the other major sports end up having close to full seasons, while baseball is still at war with itself, then yes, I think the game will be on life support. And don't even get me started on what MLB has done to the minor leagues and the pool of amateur talent. It's suicide.

I think they're trying to find middle ground around a 100 game season (more or less the midpoint between 82 and 114 games) so that salaries aren't reduced any further. I'm actually a bit more hopeful this morning that the sides aren't as far apart, as long as owners don't push back on salary deferrals. The world is on fire. Get a deal done already.

I don't have a lot of faith that anything will end up getting done.

I utterly don't give a fuck.

I still care. Distractions seem silly right now, but we need them to make life worth living, and lots of regular people and small businesses still depend on sports for their livelihoods. It isn't just about billionaires vs. millionaires.

It's just amazing to me that MLB is likely going to fuck this up so badly. They could have the entire sports viewing world held captive and they aren't going to take advantage. Even if they lost millions of dollars by having games this year, think of what it would do for the MLB brand for years to come.

I’ll just click my heels 3 times and say, “Yes, there will be Major League Baseball this year.”

Then attempt to clean up broken glass and crap outside my friends place while keeping my mask on and appropriate social distancing.

These are interesting times

Well, not the best outcome, but at least it sounds like we'll have baseball in 2020.
