MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
Hopefully the Draft will still happen on June 10 as planned, but MLB and MLBPA still can't agree on the number of rounds or slot money beyond round 5. Union also pushing back on allowing up to 5 undrafted FAs to be signed at up to $26k or an unlimited number signed up to $5k. I think the MLBPA has a point, but we'll see if it matters.

Ellis was a talented, head case. Not certain if I would have wanted him on my team as a player but good teams typically include some characters

“ The leadoff batter was Rose. Ellis considered Rose a friend, but one still worthy of targeting. Rose stood on the edge of the batter’s box as Ellis warmed up. Near the end of the ritual, Ellis flung a fastball in Rose’s direction. The actual pitches would come much closer. The first soared over Rose’s head. The next flew behind him. The third connected. Rose picked up the baseball and underhanded it to Ellis. The act left Ellis impressed.

“You have to be good, to be a hot dog,” he told Hall.

Still, Ellis was undeterred by Rose’s nonchalance. Morgan chuckled to Sanguillen that he would not meet the same fate as his teammate. He was wrong. Ellis drilled Morgan in the armpit with his next pitch. To the plate came Reds third baseman Dan Driessen. He also figured he was safe from retribution; no pitcher would plunk three men in a row. A fastball soon sizzled through the chilly air and smashed into his thigh.

“It’s not nice to hit a man when it’s cold out,” Driessen told The Dayton Daily News. “I don’t mind telling you it stung.”

Dock Ellis, center, hit three batters in the first inning before this mound conference that included catcher Manny Sanguillen, manager Danny Murtaugh, first baseman Al Oliver and second baseman Rennie Stennett. (Associated Press)

By now, the secret was out. The message had been received. With the bases loaded, Perez stepped into the batter’s box. His feet did not stay there long. Perez ducked and dodged four pitches for a heart-pounding walk. “He was running like crazy,” Sanguillen said.

Perez prevented Ellis from making history; no pitcher has ever hit four batters in a row. With Bench up, Ellis tried to start a new streak. Bench followed the same script as Perez, providing a moving target that Ellis could not find. After two balls, Pirates manager Danny Murtaugh intervened. He took the baseball from Ellis and called to the bullpen.”

Pirates rebounded from terrible start that season to make the playoffs and the Big Red Machine stayed home for post season.

I have no clue.

He's the host of a conservative news talk radio show down here in Houston. Personally I think he's a chode. He's syndicated across certain areas of the US, mostly across Texas.

And he's not being sarcastic?

The preliminary results of the MLB COVID-19 antibody study are out. Curious timing given the owners have a conference call scheduled for tomorrow to vote on a plan to restart the 2020 season, but let's put that aside for now. Only 60 out of 5,754 tested positive (more than 10,000 test kits were sent out), and it remains to be seen what the implications of this study will be.

No clue how they plan, or can, use the results of the study.

It's nice to know the MLB staff in study have largely not been infected.  From what I've read the study doesn't seem to have been conducted in a meaningful, rigorous manner to allow extrapolation to greater population - even across MLB staff.

Well this should be a quick NO from the union.
