MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
Most likely not. Do you think all sports will be cancelled for the remainder of the year?

I wouldn't rule out football, especially NFL, but probably without fans.

But this Arizona idea is a joke.  If you put aside all of the virus-related concerns with it - and those concerns are too numerous to count - it's completely impractical.  15 teams play in the Cactus League, but only 5 have their own stadiums.  So there are 10 stadiums.  If you add in Chase Field, that gives you an 11th park.  It also gives you the only one that you can seriously consider playing day games at since it has a roof.  The average high in July and August in the Phoenix area is 105.

You can't play a condensed season in an area where you can't play a game while the sun is out.  Realistically, you're probably looking at being able to play 12 games a day, including a doubleheader at Chase Field.  That means 6 teams aren't playing every day.

Also, with all games having to be played at night in Arizona, you're basically kissing off having anybody in the east being able to watch their local teams.  You'll have first pitch of Yankees-Red Sox at 10:30 p.m. ET.

This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

The "new" Deadspin has a take on this that is hard to argue against. Honestly, even if the virus is mostly contained by fall, the potential for another wave when flu season kicks in again later this year makes me think any sports at all are unlikely anytime soon. Sad.

It's hard to see it happening before there's a widely available vaccine. It's barely April -- maybe things will be different by late May or June, but it's impossible to predict and therefore impossible to plan.

The author of that article is right, though -- they're ignoring how many people would need to be involved with these games and how much of a logistical nightmare it would be to try and make it work.

Forbes out with MLB team valuations

Cubs valued at $3.2 B - the fourth most valuable MLB team. The 2nd most valuable NL team after the Dodgers. Only Yankees and Red Sox, and Dodgers remain more valuable than Cubs

Heres the list

Heres the corresponding article with some focus on Ricketts investment

In the unlikely event that baseball resumes this year, it sounds like the leagues could do away with the NL and AL distinctions and the DH as well for this season. Sure, why not?

DH would be made available for both leagues.

Guess it's just MLB trying to do their part for putting guys back to work- along with expanding rosters.

Yeah, meant "add" the DH.

Woah, was not expecting that.  Can't believe that was only 2017.

Oh man that adds an additional layer of heartbreak to an already terrible incident. Ugh.

Boston sign stealing punishment: no 2nd round draft pick for 2020 and Cora banned for 2020 including playoffs.

That's misleading.  Cora was not punished for anything he did in Boston.  This was his suspension for what he did in Houston, which had been deferred pending the outcome of the Boston investigation.

Im that hungry for baseball that I reviewed most of the prettiest swings in baseball selected for each team.

The old clips just have me hoping that fans will get to see baseball at Wrigley sometime this summer.

Off for a bike ride to visit Wrigley.
