This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.

I can see why. It's the Dbags, and he can probably fetch quite a few more dollars than that.
Signature.

I don't think the destination is necessarily the problem, as the DBags have a lot of young talent in their lineup, but agree that Cueto could probably get a bit more elsewhere, likely closer AAV to the Zimmermann contract.
Things are finally starting to percolate, so that makes me happy.

Cueto can't stay healthy and he really struggled for KC last year. I don't think he's worth more than $120/6. I'd rather take a chance on 5 years of Zimmerman.

I don't necessarily agree with all of that, and not certain that 1/2 dozen poor starts in KC after taking Cueto out his comfort zone will wreck his FA value. Zimmermann had TJS and by comparison Cueto has only missed significant time in 2013. He will get paid big by someone, for at least the amount AZ offered. He may not be a great value, but it's debatable who is better between he and Zimmermann.

Price to the BoSox for 7/217? $31M a season is insane. I really, really like Price, but that's just too much for a pitcher who will be 37 at the end of that contract.
I got nothin'.

The Cubs just aren't serious about winning.

I read that Price has an opt out after 3 years, is there any doubt he opts out? If he is healthy the next three years he definitely will.

Baseball revenues are increasing and players are going to get a portion of that increase. Boston has the money to waste so when Price is >35, they'll most likely trade him and cash to another team or release him.

Quote:I read that Price has an opt out after 3 years, is there any doubt he opts out? If he is healthy the next three years he definitely will. It depends on the market at that point. In the current market, I don't know that I would expect any 33 year old pitcher (which is what Price will be in 3 years) to do better than 4/124 on the market for his age 34-37 seasons.

That's the difference with Kershaw. Kershaw can opt out after 2018 when he'll have 2/65 left on his contract. But Kershaw will be the same age after 2018 that Price is now. Kershaw will have 2 years left on his contract. Price will have 4. Kershaw will opt out (assuming health). Price might not.

Wonder how far off the Cards were. That's a strange opt-out clause indeed.

The last 4 years of Price's deal are 4/127. $30M/season 2015-17. $31M in 2018. $32M/season 2019-21.
