MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
If a player accepts a QO, can he be given another one the following year?

This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

I believe so. I think the only thing that stops it is when they are traded mid season. They are basically signing a one year deal (so the same things like....you can't be traded until June 15th still apply).

How is the QO salary figured? I know it was at 15.8 million this season, how'd they arrive at that figure?

It's the average of the top 125 salaries (or 150, I forgot which) in MLB from the previous year.

Simmons was traded to the Angels for Aybar and 2 prospects (Newcomb & Ellis).  Seems like an awful lot for Simmons.  Newcomb immediately becomes the Braves #1 pitching prospect and Ellis is a pretty decent.  I'm sure I'm underselling Simmons, but he's just a defensive wizard.  I realize it's probably worth a win or 2, but his bat is an offensive loss.  Just not certain why he's worth as much as he is.

I got nothin'.

Additionally, we have 2 guys that accepted QO's.  Rasmus with the Astros and Weiters with the Orioles.  It's a changing business, MLB.

I got nothin'.

Matt Wieters just accepted his QO.

Ian Kennedy just rejected his QO.

The latter will be a mistake IMO.

Also, Dave Martinez is not a finalist for the Dodgers manager job. Kapler, Black, Roberts and Erstad are though.

Brett Anderson accepted the QO from the Dodgers.
