MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
I am too. It's might help gauge what we could get with Castro or Baez. Yes Simmons is incredibly talented defensively (at SS), but you already know what you're getting with the bat, a light hitting below average bat.

It has to be the Padres or Dbacks, right? Colorado has Reyes, LA has Seager, and SF has Crawford. I don't see any of those three going after him.

Most of the speculation has been on the Padres. The DBags need pitching way more than a defense-first SS like Simmons.

I'm sure Colorado would love to get rid of Reyes somehow though.

Sounds like the Braves asked the Mets for either DeGrom or Harvey for Simmons. That sure is a steep asking price.

That seems very uneven in my eyes.  DeGrom is under control until 2021.  Harvey still has 3 years of arbitration.  And despite his arm troubles is an incredible pitcher.  Simmons still has 5/$53M left on his contract.  If the Mets even thought about that, they're nuts.
I got nothin'.

Well, you have to also factor in that the teams are dealing within their division. Of course the Braves would ask for the moon from the Mets.

Probably heresy but I would consider investing in this as well as the BAM Tech IPO:

Quote:A move Nov. 12 by the Atlanta Braves parent company could set the stage for the team to be spun off, a securities analyst says.

Liberty Media Corp. (Nasdaq: LMCA), which owns the Braves, said Thursday it is creating a tracking stock for the Braves and for its two other principal businesses, Sirius XM Holdings Inc. and Live Nation Entertainment Inc.

A tracking stock is actually not an official spin-off asset, said Jeffrey Wlodarczak, founder and CEO of New York-based Pivotal Research Group LLC. Basically a tracking stock is a tool for a company to highlight specific asset within the larger company.

Liberty Braves will still be part of Liberty Media, he said.

Sounds like Simmons to the Angels.

For Aybar and their 2 top prospects. Still a lot of junk.

Also, the Braves are just loading up on young arms now.

It was bound to happen eventually. Rasmus wasn't getting anywhere near 16 million as a FA.

True, but sometimes the security of a multi-year deal plays a big role in the decision as well.

Newcomb seems to have a lot of potential but a hilariously high BB rate. Ellis pretty much sucks though. Anyway, I'm just curious to see if the Braves deal Teheran now and what he would cost us.
