So in his first year they'll win the division and possibly make the WS.  In his second year, the wheels will fall off and both Strasburg and Scherzer will have their arms destroyed.

I don't understand any team offering any managerial candidate a one year deal unless they've already been tampering with someone that will be available in a year.

 

Why else would any team *want* a one year deal for a manager?

I think all teams would ideally want to a 1 year deal because it limits their risk.

 

Top managerial candidates won't accept a 1 year deal for obvious reasons.

Recall reading that Rizzo/ownership doesn't like giving out multi-year deals to managers and that Williams deal with the Nats was one year plus an option year which most likely was the offer that Black turned down.
