Actually Hendricks was acquired from Texas for Dempster.

Quote:Actually Hendricks was acquired from Texas for Dempster. Hendry acquired Dempster. J/k. I forgot we got him in that trade. So, on the current roster, it must be only Baez and Castro. I'm pretty sure none of the relievers were acquired by Hendry.

Playoff roster? Yes, just Baez and Castro. From the end of the season roster, Szczur (draft) and Rosscup (acquired from TB in Garza trade) were also from the Hendry era.
This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.

My point is that on the baseball side, from the ownership on down, there are almost no links left to the previous regime.
This is why I don't give a shit about cats and goats and Bartman or any of the lame narratives about 1908 or 1945 or 1969. Everything that has always been wrong with this organization has been changed...and probably fixed. This is why the Willis's of the world can go fuck themselves harder than the baseball media, our rivals' fans or anyone else. Fine..we're now long odds for a 2015 championship. God bless Joe Maddon for not seeing the team as ahead of schedule, but it is. Damn near half of of the starting position players are *rookies*. That's all that needs to be said about that. This team's window is just opening. This is a great time to be a Cubs fan.

Couldn't agree more.

I wish I could find the video, but I distinctly remember an interview with Epstein a few year back. He was asked something along the lines of how he goes about building a "World Series winning team". His response was that you do not build a World Series winning team. You build a team with the idea in mind to get to the post season as many times as possible. He stated the post season is a crap shoot. The hot team usually does well and anything can quickly change your fortunes. To him it was a matter of statistics. You build your club in a manner that got you to the post season on a regular basis, because the frequency is the key to improving your odds of winning.
It was a very cool and refreshing view following a regime that built to win 1 season at a time. The interview could have even been from his time with the BoSox. I'm not sure.
I got nothin'.

I mean, that's about as clear cut as it gets and makes absolute sense.

I remember the same interview as well, and it's really ultimately the point. As good as we think the Cardinals have been, they've won 2 world titles despite only missing the playoffs 3 times from 2000 - 2015 (and of the 2 times they've won, once was as a wild card and the other was by winning the division with 83 wins). Get in as often as possible. That's the best chance for success.

I'm sure we'll be feeling even better next year when we're cheering on the Cubs to their World Series title defense.

Not sure where else to post this, or if anyone even cares. RIP Grantland.
