I think you're going off perception and not what really happened.

 

We all agree the Cubs pitching was incredible this year.  In the 2nd half of the season, here was the staff's numbers:

 

50-25 with a 3.42 era.

 

The Blue Jays:

48-23 with a 3.34 era.

 

Their pitching improvement was the key reason they won the division.  The offense was pretty steady all season.

Can't even really count Stroman.  He only pitched 27 innings.  I actually hadn't even realized that he was back.
