MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
I accidentally opened the first page of this thread, assuming it was the last,  and read about Mike Hampton joining the Astros.  I immediately began thinking that it had to be some publicity stunt with Hampton being old as dirt (he's been retired for 7 years) and the Astros playing so well.

Then I looked at the date to see Dec 1, 2008.  Jeezus this is a long running thread.

I got nothin'.

I hope they trade away the farm for them only to have it backfire and have a terrible 2nd half.

Was there any indication heading into this season that the Brewers might be a good team? I wasn't expecting them to be competitive at all...

Not at all. A lot of no name players are overachieving (pitching and hitting) through 80+ games.

That's not usually sustainable, right former All Star Bryan LaHair?

This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

Sounds like the Marlins have finally found a buyer at $1.17 billion.

That seems like way more than they're worth.

Does my heart good knowing that a pond scum like Jeff Loria will no longer be a MLB owner.  He will only be walking away with slightly more than a billion for fleecing fans / suckers like this guy to buy into the Marlins Park.

Seriously fuck that guy.

Also, who the fuck would buy the Marlins? They must be profitable, but I don't see how. The stadium is always half-full, at best. Nobody gives a rat's ass about the Marlins.

I don't know much about either of the two publicly traded construction & related equipment companies controlled by this Jorge Mas person (Neff & Mastec), but he is a Cuban-American with ties to Miami and lots of money to burn. Sounds like the Marlins would just be a trophy property, but who knows.

And now it looks like Jeter's group is back in play. Seriously, fuck Loria.

I believe what they make from revenue sharing is what still makes them very profitable.
