Supposedly the White Sox offer was greater than the Phillies offer so guessing Wheeler or agent is smart enough to stay away from the South Side cesspool

Why does Darren Dreifort spring to mind?

Wheeler's wife saved the White Sox from themselves.
Quote:<p lang="en" dir="ltr">#WhiteSox’s offer to Wheeler was for MORE than the $118M he will receive from the #Phillies, sources tell The Athletic. As @MarcCarig said, Wheeler’s wife is from New Jersey, and that proximity was an important consideration in his decision.

I can't believe Wheeler got 100 million. The upside is there, but he's been mediocre and injured.

Wheeler has been mediocre mostly due to injury.
Contract seems like a overpay. If Cole gets >$300 MM deal and Wheeler remains healthy/productive, contract could turn into a bargain. Of course, next season Almora could hit like a MVP candidate, return to All Star quality defense, and answer Cubs needs as a lead off man just as pigs come flying out of Ross’ ass. Anything is almost possible. Phillies purchased the chance of Wheeler being healthy and productive

Zack Wheeler Similarity Scores through Age 29 via Baseball Reference.
Whole lotta "talented but injured" there with very little hope for a productive future.

Narvaez isn't a great defensive catcher, but he can hit. Also, when will MLB do away with these stupid competitive balance picks? Every NL Central team was just granted one for 2020, except the Cubs.

Saw reports that Nats deal includes interest. If agreement is Nat’s typical back ended structure, it may be less impactful as other deal structures they’ve offered.
Top end pitching continues to climb in value. Cole could very well be offered $300 MM contract - Was a joke during season but now who knows?

Yankees are going to be good.

Quote:So what is Cole worth, $300 million? $324 million to be exact. That contract is lunacy.
