MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
If someone would have told me that the Padres would be assembling the talent of a big market team and locking up both young talent and top producing veterans, I would be pointing out that their strategy made little financial sense so couldnt work. Who knows? Maybe the current market inefficiency is undervaluing winning ballgames in current season.

Few expect this MLB season to proceed without Covid issues. Even fewer fans expect the new 2022 CBA negotiations to go smoothly. Still its great to see a club appear to place cart before the horse and make shrewd trades picking up undervalued assets (veterans) without giving up top prospects and lock down top players despite significant economic uncertainty.

Could these assets underperform and be on trading block in a few years? Sure. Despite no trade clauses, shit happens.

Most fans prefer ownership attempts to win rather than speak of historic financial losses and point out debt obligations while building a real estate empire with media and political arms

Like I said, 2024 will be an interesting offseason. The Pads are paying Tatis nothing over the next 4 years.

Would like to see Padres make a case that winning now increases team value significantly to the point that team is sold in 2-3 years for massive windfall. Seidler took over majority ownership from Fowler in offseason. They’ve been the most aggressive in offseason during uncertain times. Covid and CBA could kill the next seasons for MLB but ownership group has made moves to improve current roster and added long term liabilities. Would like to see a new model for MLB success rather than multi-season tanking which leads to a more competitive MLB for fans

Well, at least Kevin Mather proves it's not just Cubs leadership that's filled with a bunch of assholes.

Sogard will infect the Cubs.

Good for MLB for pulling the All-Star game from Atlanta. Hopefully other leagues will follow suit in some fashion.

The Bauer ball doctoring reports are music to my ears. Also, did anyone notice one of the Pirates pitchers in the opening series had a cap with half the bill all white with powder or gunk of some sort? He'd go to it before every pitch. I wasn't watching that closely, but I feel like our announcers didn't mention it, so maybe they knew what it was and it was OK. But it looked weird.

How could all these true blue baseball fans do such a thing?

I haven't heard much from the shit talking Yankees fan baseball dad who used to say, "Thanks for Gleyber!" every time I'd see him at one of my son's games. It's like he would make a beeline straight towards me. As if I ever knew what fucking Gleyber Torres was doing for the Yankees if he didn't tell me all about it.

When aren’t NYers angry?

Hey, maybe the Cubs have found a trading partner for Sogard at the deadline?

I wouldn't have known either, but a lot of my political follows on twitter are fans.  The team as a whole is doing as bad or worse than the Cubs, but they seem to be focusing pretty closely on him.
