MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)

Interesting.  Sounds like MLB involvement in the 2020 Olympics is a possibility.

This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

The Ringer's Baumann and Lindbergh discuss which current MLB trends are here to stay - based on spring training and the first days of the season.

A Cub reference to Schwarber's professional hitting approach in one discussion and a full discussion regarding one Cub's defensive abilities.  Here's some commentary on Javy's defense:

"everybody’s going to extrapolate that out to him being the best defensive player at his position" ,

"he’ll continue to be a staple of highlights but won’t really graduate into the stratosphere, at least as far as value that some of the other Cubs occupy"

What does that even mean?

So in other words, they commend his defense but claim he won't be special like Bryant, Rizzo and Schwarber because he doesn't do anything else as good? I have to assume they're talking about his hitting?

If that's the case, I'm ok with him being a lifetime .260 hitter at the bottom of the order. I don't think he needs to be at the level of Bryzzo for him to be valuable to this team.

Angels put 7 on the board in the bottom of the 9th to come back from a 3-9 deficit.

There's a cat running around the outfield at the Braves-Marlins game.  Announcers having soooooo much fun debating whether it's gray or black.  And, of course, the Cubs got mentioned.

Iowa play the New Orleans Baby Cakes today.

Baby Cakes has to be the most stupidest name in the history of sports.

Agreed. Baby Cake is a NOLA thing. Typically served during special occasions e.g. Mardi Gris. The person who gets the piece of cake with miniature baby is supposed to have luck or a wish
