MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
Quote:White Sox and Shark getting pounded. Only losing 3-0 to the Cards after making every conceivable error under the sun taint so bad after all.
Surprisingly quiet now after all that shit talking this morning.

Oh, and Porcello extended four years.

That's an odd deal. Why would he sign that?

Why wouldn't he? He gets 20.5 million a year and still hits FA at 31. If he keeps doing what he has so far, that FA at 31 will still get him another contract of 20+ million a year.

I dunno. If he were to hit FA at the end of the season, barring an injury, he's probably looking at $22mil+/per for 8 years at his young age. What if he regresses over the next couple of seasons? I suppose he's betting on himself, but it is a risky bet. Then again, he still has $82mil to fall back on if things don't work out. The timing just seems strange.

The SP market is going to be saturated this offseason. With potential FA's like Price, Zimmerman, cueto, shark, he may not have got an 8 year offer.

Not sure about that. A 26 year-old SP with improving stats and no history of injury. I think he would have gotten a top 3 deal. Now we'll never know.

For y'all still up, hit the Rangers-A's game. There's something going on there that you aren't supposed to say when it's going on. 746 on Directv. Baseball package is free all week.

Spiegs and Goff railing on Hawk.  He was calling Shark and Chris Sale their, "Captains of Attitude".  Wow.

Also he told a story about how he walked into Guillen's office one day after Carlos Quentin got beaned three times in a game and asked Guillen what he was planning on doing about that?  Wtf?  The announcer went to a major league Manager and was holding him accountable?  Who in the fuck does that guy think he is?

I can't wait for him to die.

Not me. I can't get enough Hawk....he just embarrasses himself and the Sox organization every time he opens his mouth. I love hearing his rants on how bad the umps are; I love hearing his idiotic tirades on how baseball should be; I love hearing his calls when the Sox lose on a walk off homerun (which is usually just 90 seconds of dead air).

Here's to another 10 years of laughing at his, and the Sox, expense. He's so miserable it's become entertaining for me. Keep it coming.

I just want to drink beer and play atari

I'd be pissed if my organization let their announcer pull that shit.  Should have told him to go sit on a bat.

Every time I try to soften my stance on the Sox, I remember Hawk and KW and then my hatred rekindles immediately.

The problem with Hawk, as I see it, is that he feeds the fanbase's ignorance. Most Sox fans freaking LOVE the guy. Even friends of mine who are otherwise intelligent people think Hawk's schtick is just harmless homerism. They love all of his good ol' boy catchphrases and they seem to think he actually knows what the fuck he is talking about. I'd like to think with a change in announcer -- someone who isn't a total douchebag -- it might make a slight change in the attitude of the fanbase. Probably not, but maybe?
