This is going to turn out to be an interesting trade to continue watching, I think. So far, the returns have yo-yo'd back and forth a number of times. And I'd say that there's a solid chance that both guys will be in MLB for a good long time, with a few All-Star appearances mixed in.
Both guys are good players. First basemen are much easier to find, so there's an edge to having Cashner on that front. And when Cashner is healthy and throwing well, he's like freaking Kerry Wood. But, yeah. Kerry Wood. Or Rich Harden. Or Prior. Not sure I'd have the stomach for another one of those.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance
