They'll end up regretting this deal.
Ya think? The thing that makes it especially stupid is that Cabrera was still 2 years from FA. At least 5 years of this deal will be terrible. The Tigers are going to find themselves in bad shape when the owner dies (Ilitch is 85) and the new owner isn't willing to lose 20 million per season to win a World Series. They just got out from under Fielders albatross. Now they just got into another one.

It was a fan motivated decision. The fans were probably upset about Scherzer so they thought letting Miggy retire as a Tiger would be the answer.

Updated MLB drug rules. 1st time offenders get 80 game suspension; 2nd time 1 year with no pay/postseason; 3rd time lifetime ban. Sounds as though the ability to argue over accidental usage has been revised a bit as well. Get ready for more Ryan Braun type fiascos.

What would happen with another Braun violation? A 1st time violation under the old rules was 50 games and he got more than that. Does that mean he's one violation away from a lifetime ban?
On an unrelated topic, anyone know which of these water bottles is his?

Angels sign Trout to 6 yr / $144.5m deal covering 3 arbitration years and 3 FA years that kicks in 2015. This is clearly a very team-friendly deal, BUT Trout will still be able to hit the market at only 29. This is the anti-Cabrera deal.

Surprised that Trout didn't wait till free agency but deal provides him financial security for life and he still has an opportunity at a Miggy type deal just prior to turning 30.
Under the rich get richer category, Grady Sizemore will be the Red Sox CF after putting together a nice, healthy spring while prospect Bradley struggled. Bradley being sent to AAA. Believe Sizemore signed for $750,000.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sizemore outperforms Ellsbury this season at $20m less. I also wouldn't be shocked if both were on the DL by May.

Kinda difficult watching Cashner dominate in another uniform.

Cashner benefits from playing home games at Petco. Last year, he was unanimous Cy Young-worthy at home, posting a 1.95 ERA and a 0.970 WHIP.
On the road, not so much. 4.00 ERA and a 1.262 WHIP.
Point being that there's no reason to think he'd be anywhere near as good as a Cub.

I don't know if it's statistically significant, but 4 of the 30 season opening pitchers are Cubs/Ex-Cubs.
Samardzija, Cashner, Nolasco and Feldman.
I got nothin'.

I don't think Archer is the best one, but he's a close second.

I'd rather have him on my squad than any of the others.
