Especially considering he's likely to end up a full time reliever by mid-year 2014 if his decline continues.

I didn't even realize he threw a no-hitter this year. Maybe I did and just didn't care enough to remember.

He did, but his era was like 5 up to that point. Without that game, wonder if he gets this deal.

I cannot make sense of this deal. His stats were better this year than last, but nothing of the last 2 months of the season gave the impression he would return to his best.
I got nothin'.

It's like the giants learned nothing from the Zito fiasco.

Quote:It's like the giants learned nothing from the Zito fiasco. It's nothing like Zito. The Zito contract was 7 years/$126M. The Giants will have paid (including his $7M 2014 buyout) only $10M less to Zito for 7 years than the Cubs and Yankees will have collectively paid to Soriano for 8 years. A 2/$35M contract is not remotely comparable to a 7/$126M contract no matter how much they are overpaying him for those 2 years.
This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.

No correlation whatsoever. What was I thinking?

Overpaid for Lincecum? Yes, but not by a lot.

MLB trade rumors posted a fairly interesting article on pitcher's salaries. This is what the article said about Lincecum:
Quote: Maybe 2/$35 might not be that far off for him. I think the Hunter Pence contract is way worse than Lincecum's contract.

Quote:So, based on this years 1.6 WAR, $10M / WAR isn't a lot? </div> </blockquote> Based on that, yes. However, he is expected to perform better based on numbers from this past season. Lincecum's xFIP, xFIP-, SIERA, etc are right there with Latos, CC, Gio Gonzalez, (depending which stat you look at). Would you give any of those guys $35mil/2 years? I would and not think twice. Would I give it to Lincecum? No, but considering he would likely get more on an open market...$17.5mil isn't THAT far off how much I would've given him per season.
