Aside from the on-the-field blow-ups, Z is generally seen as a likable dude around MLB. Plus, he's never worn an Ed Hardy shirt to my knowledge.

Yeah, to us he's likable. But whenever ESPN or some website does a story about MLB's biggest douches, he's always right up there with AJ Pierzinsky (sp) and Milty Bradley, etc.

So I think we have a rose-colored glasses view of him. Which is what a hard-core fan is supposed to have; heck, he's one of my favorites, and I'm glad JH didn't freak out over the latest li'l tirade.

I meant more in terms of how his peers view him, not the uninformed, mouth-breathing, ESPN-watching masses.

Yes, this news is a shocker. No, it's not another Cub player going to spend time on the DL.

It's good, old, Jake Peavy. Yeah, the Sox have decided to take the conservative approach for him, this time, and put him on the DL.

I'm waiting to break out my 2011 Dunn HRs vs Peavy starts wager line for next week.

It sure looks like we may have dodged a bullet with Dunn (no idea if Hendry was actually looking at him). He has sucked huge balls with the Sox.

1. This is just spectacular news for veryzer, who detests Dunn almost as much as he hates the Sox.
2. I can pretty much guarantee you that Dunn's career has physically repulsed JH and Gary Hughes. Ain't no way they even remotely considered him.

Dunn's struggles make me wonder about his adjustment to full time DHing. His skill set doesn't lend itself to sudden collapse.

I wouldn't think so either, although there is an ESPN article up now that compares him to similar players from the past (big, sluggardly power hitters) who fell off a cliff in their early 30's. The article does note that it was cherry-picking, and also notes that Dunn has few comparable players historically, because of his odd skill set.

Fly, that's an interesting theory about the DH thing. He was actually playing decently defensively last year at 1B, so I wonder if the Sox will try to get his head back into the game that way.

And since you all know that I'm a huge Dunn fan, I'll admit that I didn't see this coming; last year was the sixth straight year that he hit either 38 or 40 homers. However, as noted above, his body-type is the type that lends itself to sudden cliff-like dropoffs in the age 31-34 years. And that's why I would not have given him a 4-year deal (and why there was such an uproar about Ryan Howard's 5-year, $125 M deal, which hasn't even kicked in YET.)

Dave Kingman. Bit of a douche

Don't worry, Peavy will be back just in time to pitch the Sox into the postseason with a ridiculous September.
