We wonder abotu Dempster, but what the hell is wrong with Lackey this year? He is getting shelled all over.

My buddy's a diehard Red Sox fan and has been complaining about Lackey daily for weeks. Lackey's fastball hasn't been higher than 89 or so in the games I watch, and is as straight as an arrow. He has nothing right now.
His line today:
3 2/3, 10 H, 9 ER, 2 HR, 2 BB, 3 K

That line screams James Russel, which means this guy would be a sure fire starter for the Cubs.

Not to suck on Artie Moreno's cock anymore than I already do, but the Angels just know what they're doing. Not resigning Lackey looks like the best decision they've made. Weaver is the ace they expected to have when we was drafted, Santana is a solid mid-rotation arm, and yeah, I think that Haren trade has panned out.
Tony Reagins and Moreno know when to sell-high, and/or let go of the vets. Vlad's big 2010 in Texas was probably the exception.

I still don't think getting Wells was a bad pickup. But I mainly was thinking how Lackey, Saunders, etc. have all sucked since they left. And while I really like Napoli, it's clear they thought that getting Wells and going with Congor was worth the risk. Going off their track record, I still take their word for it.

I never thought much of Lackey.
And I'm going to have a nice hearty laugh when Garza ends up having a better season than Greinke, and he ends up in counseling by the end of the season.

Kansas City called up the first of their wonderkids, Eric Hosmer. He's gonna be a stud.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

And it's like Alex Gordon just got "called up". He's finally hitting the ball. Just 4 or 5 years ago, homeboy was the top prospect in the land, but he's stunk it up in the majors. I've heard he's a bit of a headcase and some people there thought he wasn't going to ever figure it out, but is off to a great start so far this year.

Yeah, if his start is for real and Hosmer, Moustakas, Myers, Montgomery, Lamb, etc. all turn out to be as good as advertised and they can bring in a few solid veterans, that team is going to be the Rays of a couple years ago, except better.

I agree, and said that before the trade. I wanted Garza more than Greinke, regardless of price or whatever else. I think Garza's the safer call. Greinke's already shown he CAN be the best pitcher in the entire league, but he's been a bit shaky since that, and we know his social anxiety issues and whatnot as Rok alluded to. Greinke in big games just seems like it could be a huge mess. And Garza's already shown with his 2008 ALCS MVP that the playoffs are no big thing to him.

Destined, I agree that Arte Moreno is an excellent owner, but I'd have to say that Tony Reaggins (sp?) ain't exactly a virtuoso as GM. The Vernon Wells pickup may the single stupidest move since the Barry Zito signing.
I think Soscia is one of the best managers in the game, and probably covers up a lot of Reagins' gaffes.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance
