Hahaha. Let me rephrase...not so good for him. Great for us.

@Rok its only a matter of time before that lunatic Guillen and KW start going at it again. Oh and their future Sandy Koufax Chris Sale hasn't looked so hot either.

Is it really that hard? Bob Davidson did it twice to Miguel Montero last night (and from the angle behind the pitcher, I don't think he went on either one). I think that should be a suspend-able offense from an umpire, it's just unfair and unnecessary.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

And he's at it again tonight. Gibson ejected as a result.

I know that MLB umpires have a rep for being correct a very high % of the time, but that must be in the field. Behind the plate, it seems as if it's a lot more slipshod.

Since the players are scrutinized down to the electron level, why do we let umps get away with being blatantly wrong about a fifth of the time?
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

I bet if you could find actual numbers you would find that the umps are right probably 95% of the time. These guys don't become Major League umpires because they are wrong 20% of the time. These are the best umps in the country, would you rather have some guys from Single A umping the games?

If the ump from A-ball was better at calling balls and strikes, then hell yes I'd prefer him to have the job. But the ump's union won't allow MLB to hire/fire umps based on skill level.

Yes, I understand why the union wants to protect seniority. It just seems odd that the players are allowed to stay in MLB only on merit, but the umps are not held to a similar standard.

Yea, but in a game where 27 outs is your time allotment, 95% isn't that great...if in fact that were true.
If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

I think umpires call a smaller strike zone. If that is true, using a 100% accurate strike zone would hurt offense. MLB would not want offense reduced any more than it has been.
I like you guys a lot.

For the base umps it isn't that great. But for home plate umps seeing 225+ pitches a game, i would say getting 95% of those calls correct is pretty good.

We have the technology to get 100% of the calls everywhere on the field correct 100% of the time. Why don't we use it?

This is a good start at least.

Let's not forget that KW is a freakin' genius of a GM. He knew that there was no reason to hold onto to Putz, Jenks or sign a high-priced closer.

Yup, no reason to ever spend cash on relief pitching free agents. Just ask Kenny.

BTW, I'm waiting for Sox fans to come up with some dumb ass slogan like, "The Sox are near perfect through through 7 (or 8?) innings". Too management forgot that the game is 9 innings long and those 6 blown saves led to 5 defeats.

Tulowitzki is absolutely killing the ball. Ugh. 4 homers in 4 straight games. They won game 1 of the doubleheader today and are tied now... believe their record with a win would go to 10-2.

And Casey Coleman pitching at Coors worries the shit out of me. He pitches to contact, and with the huge dimensions there, that's not good. We need to win tomorrow.
