QUOTE Detroit first baseman arrested on suspicion of drunken driving
By the CNN Wire Staff
February 17, 2011 10:19 a.m. EST

(CNN) -- Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera was arrested late Wednesday on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and two counts of resisting an officer without violence, a Florida sheriff's office said Thursday.

Cabrera, 27, was booked into the St. Lucie County, Florida, jail at 12:20 a.m. Thursday, less than an hour after the arrest, authorities said. He posted bail of $1,350 and was released at 7:45 a.m. Thursday.

An arrest affidavit said Cabrera refused to submit to a breath test, cursed at officers and asked them, "Do you know who I am?" The baseball player also picked up a bottle of Scotch and began drinking from it while officers were present, according to the affidavit.

Attempts to determine whether Cabrera has an attorney were unsuccessful Thursday.

The incident began after authorities found a vehicle smoking from the engine compartment on the side of the road, the affidavit said. The deputy "detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" coming from the driver, identified by his driver's license as Cabrera, according to the report. "His eyes were bloodshot and watery and his speech was ... heavily slurred."

The deputy said that he asked Cabrera who was with him, and he replied, "I'm going to (expletive) kill him." However, the deputy saw no one else in the vehicle or in the area, according to the affidavit.

The officer said he then saw Cabrera pick up the bottle and begin drinking it, the report said. He handed the officer his passport when asked for his identification, then got out of the car and walked into the road, putting his hands up. The deputy said he continually asked Cabrera to get out of the road, and he did, but then wandered back, according to the affidavit.

Another deputy, who wrote the arrest report, explained that when he arrived, Cabrera was handcuffed and "being held onto" by a third deputy. The deputy tried to put him into a police car, but Cabrera said, "Do you know who I am? You don't know anything about my problems" and refused to comply, according to the affidavit.

The second deputy said he asked Cabrera to get into the car, "and he stated, '(Expletive) you. Do you know who I am?'" Cabrera then pushed off the vehicle into the deputy, who forced him into the car by delivering "3-4 knee spikes into his left thigh muscle," the report said.

While transporting Cabrera to the jail, there was a strong odor of alcohol in the car, the deputy wrote in the affidavit.

In addition to facing the misdemeanor charges, Cabrera was cited for having an open container of alcohol in the car, the report said.

In 2009, Cabrera was arrested in Birmingham, Michigan, after an argument with his wife, CNN affiliate WDIV reported. She told authorities he had come home drunk. He reportedly said last year he had stopped drinking.

No, I just think scotch is a little too "high class" to be taking swigs off of a bottle.

Nothing democratizes expensive booze better than pulling from the bottle in front of a cop, especially during a DUI stop.

He keeps alluding to "other problems" other than alcohol, and has been for awhile now. He even mentioned it when he was thoroughly drunk, to a cop.

Does anybody else know what said problem is?
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

He's playing who's your daddy with Leyland.
Fat Bastard is an immensely obese, hardly able to walk (weighing a metric ton) gardener and henchman hailing from Scotland. His extreme size endows Fat Bastard with super-human strength as exhibited by his prowess in the Sumo ring from Goldmember. This makes him a formidable enemy for Austin Powers. Fat Bastard is noted for his foul temper, his frequent flatulence, his vulgar and revolting bad manners and his unusual eating habits, which include taste for Human infants (which he calls "the other other white meat") or anything that looks like a baby, e.g. small people. Fat Bastard has been a regular at Cub games since the early 80's when he tried several times (unsuccessfully) to eat the visiting San Diego Chicken.

I wonder how that played out. Was it the 'Canes throwing everything they had at a B-squad just trying to get their work in?

But if SOI played the Cubs, we'd be losing 1,000 to nothing before we recorded the first out.

Has anyone mentioned what happened to ex-Cub Luis Salazar? Didn't see it posted anywhere. I guess he got hit in the face with a line drive and lost an eye.

I didn't realize that Marcum was hurting too. Been a rough spring for the Brewers.
