MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
Oh how I will miss him. Almost as much as Koyie.

The Reds got raped in that deal, especially when you consider that Dusty (and GAB) will ruin Latos.

Yea, that's an insane amount of talent for him.
If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

Sox sign Danks for 5/$65M. I'm not sure whether Kenny knows if they're trying to compete or rebuild. This makes no sense given their roster.

Exactly what everyone was saying on twitter last night when the story broke. What a crew.

I'm not sure what Danks was thinking in accepting this deal. Maybe he doesn't feel he can bounce back from his poor year and just took the money? Not saying the dollars aren't attractive, but the Sox are gonna blow almost as badly as we are for the foreseeable future. I guess KW wasn't pleased by the offers he received when shopping Danks.

Beane just raped Rizzo...

Quote:According to ESPN's Keith Law, the Athletics have agreed to trade Gio Gonzalez to the Nationals for prospects A.J. Cole, Brad Peacock, Derek Norris and Tommy Milone.

It's a massive haul for A's GM Billy Beane. Cole, a 19-year-old right-hander, posted a 108/24 K/BB ratio in 89 innings this past season at the Single-A level. Peacock, a 23-year-old righty, had a 2.39 ERA and 177/47 K/BB ratio in 146 2/3 innings between Double-A and Triple-A in 2011. Norris, a 22-year-old catcher, has an .861 career OPS in the minors and Milone registered a 155/16 K/BB ratio in 148 1/3 innings this past season at Triple-A. Gonzalez should fit nicely into the Nationals' plans to contend quickly, but Oakland is the clear winner in this five-player swap.

I like... That's 3 of the Nats top 10 prospects with Milone just on the outside of the top 10. Garza's value just keeps trending upwards

Theo needs to pillage a teams farms system now.

Figured Beane would get a haul for Gonzalez. As tough as it would be to have to see, Theo should probably do the same for Garza.

Wow, why couldn't we have pulled off a similar deal with the Nats?

Gonzalez has an extra year of team control.

That's why I said "similar" not identical. Garza's numbers have arguably been better in a tougher division for most of his career.

The Sox just sent Quentin to the Padres for 2 mediocre prospects. I wonder how, if at all, this affects our ability to land Rizzo.

So after extending Danks he goes back to rebuild mode.

It's especially stupid when you consider that they have a hole in LF now that Viciedo will slide over to RF.

The White Soxs send Frasor back to the Blue Jays for a couple of pitching prospects, Miles Jaye and Daniel Webb, who were in A ball last year.
