Mussina is someone I've come around to as a HOFer in recent years, so that's cool. Did not expect anyone to ever be unanimous, so very nice to see Rivera finally be the guy. And I hope Schilling gets voted in one day posthumously. He doesn't deserve to enjoy the honor.

I'm torn on the unanimous thing. I generally think it's stupid that obvious HOFers don't get in unanimously. But...Rivera over Maddux (or a whole bunch of other guys)? Is this the statement that the baseball writers are making with unanimous pick? Or are they trying to correct the idiotic practice of leaving an obvious player off their ballot going forward?
Also, fuck Curt Schilling.

I think it's a combo of Rivera is the best closer of all time, old baseball writers suck on the Yankee teat, and new baseball writers don't go for that "not on the first time" garbage.

It's stupid that there weren't prior unanimous selections, and the fact that people were stupid in the past shouldn't be used as a justification to continue being stupid.
This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.

Good riddance. Hopefully he continues to be a headcase for the Mets.

Is the voting anonymous? In the NBA MVP voting it used to be anonymous--it changed a few years ago. Before, someone who didn't vote for MJ in a year where anyone with a thinking brain would have done so, wouldn't have to answer why they made that decision. I think that change was responsible for Curry getting a unanimous MVP vote (something Michael never got), something that wouldn't have happened when the voting was anonymous.

Most BBWs write about their votes. There's almost way for a lone "no" to stay a secret.

If the Reds get him, I will officially be worried about our status in the Central.

Honest question: assuming health for all parties, whom would you replace in our rotation with someone from the Reds rotation? I guess maybe Wood for Hamels?

Maybe. Possibly even Gray (Yankee stadium splits aside) with Quintana or Hamels, assuming parts of 2018 were not a fluke. I'd still take the Cubs rotation by a healthy margin. The bullpens and lineups are much closer, and might give a slight edge to the Reds, depending on the health of Morrow and development of Edwards.

The second reason makes it slightly annoying (if he had the exact same career in a different uni, at least 1 dude would snub him) but overall this is a good thing.
