This season games with the Cards have been really close. 6 of the 9 have been decided by 2 runs or less. Cubs are hot right now. Just need to keep that moving along. I'm going with 3-1 for the series.
I got nothin'.

Quote:I stick with the old testament type deluge - a huge crater opens in St Louis and Busch Stadium, the Cardinals team and all those affiliated with the organization get swallowed up and sent to hell.
In the realm of reality, there has been an underground nuclear waste fire burning under STL for decades. 2016 just might be the year the city finally is obliterated by it. That said, if this happens then those of us who live in the Midwest might all be doomed as well.

I can't get the video directly, but here's the link for the page. Select "Broxton takes advantage of rundown, scores".

Situation:
Matt Garza batting. Count is 0-2. Guys on 1st and 3rd with 1 out. Looks like they're going for a squeeze.
Garza clearly offers at the pitch and strikes out. They throw down to second and get that runner, but the guy on 3rd comes in. All because the home plate umpire said Garza laid off the pitch. I'm not sure how it's not a K, CS double play to end the inning.
I got nothin'.

Maybe I'm old school, but, I have no problem with them plunking Stanton. As long as they don't go head hunting then I'm okay with it.
That's not old school, it's just dumb. If a player is hit, with no reason to believe it's intentional, retaliation is idiotic.</blockquote>
Intentional or not, he hit one of the Cards best hitters in the hand and broke it. Retaliation was going to happen whether Cashner did it on purpose or not. The umps let the players police themselves. Like I said, as long as they didn't headhunt on Stanton (I don't know where he got hit) I am fine with it. You don't agree, that's fine.
</blockquote>
Just catching up on this thread and came across this. I'm guessing you'd feel differently if St. Louis retaliates today and takes out one of our guys for the season. I think it truly sucks that we have to worry about this. I agree with Kid: it really is an idiotic part of the game that needs to go away, and I'm thankful that Maddon doesn't stoop to that level when the tables are turned.

It's the Cardinals. The umpires should issue warnings before the national anthem.

If there's retaliation, my fantasy is the look on the face of whoever is taking warmup swings at the top of the 9th as Chapman comes in with a seven run lead.

The pitch was definitely high and tight, but the way Holliday reacted to it had just as much to blame for causing the injury than the pitch itself. If Matheny orders any sort of retaliation, it will be just one more piece of evidence proving that he is mentally unfit to be a big league manager.

I'm trying to be as unbiased as possible here, but I honestly can't think why Card fans believe Holiday getting beaned was intentional. What did the Cubs have to gain by that? Contrary to what they believe, pitchers do throw a wild pitch from time to time....it's part of the game.
So intentionally throwing at someone (with the intent to hurt) as retaliation justifies a previous batter getting hurt on pure accident? WTF!?

If that happens, then the consequences won't be pretty for them.

The "Cardinal Way" doesn't require a HBP to be intentional for retaliation to be required. It's always required.

As long as it's below chest level then fine. Just don't go up high.
