I went up to Milwaukee for that last Cubs-Brewers series this past summer, and that's exactly what I thought. They are stuck in a 1980's timewarp.
And the funniest thing is how they really think they are better than Chicago and all people from Illinois. They love throwing around the term FIB or whatever the hell it is (Fuckin Illinois Bastard), but it was SO sweet being there for the sweep and being able to talk major shit. They were PISSED

Yep. That was the one. Going into that series the Brewers had cut a 8-9 game lead to 1. So a 4-game sweep was a back breaker for the Brewers.

2:12pm: Troy Renck says Redding agreed in principle to a one-year, $2.25MM deal with the Mets.
1:12pm: According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, the Mets are close to signing Tim Redding to a one-year deal for $2.25MM plus incentives. Ken Davidoff of Newsday also has it, suggesting the deal is for about $2.5MM.
The Mets figure to add Derek Lowe or Oliver Perez as well. Not sure if this takes them out on Pedro Martinez. After signing Lowe or Perez the Mets may have the luxury of using Mike Pelfrey in the #5 role to limit his innings slightly.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Red Sox have agreed to terms with Takashi Saito on a one-year contract with a team option for 2010.
According to Rosenthal, the deal includes around $2 million in guaranteed money with an additional $5 million or so in potential incentives. Elbow problems make the 39-year-old Saito a question mark, but when healthy he's been one of the most dominant relievers in baseball over the past three seasons, saving 81 games with a 1.95 ERA and 245/52 K/BB ratio in 189 2/3 innings. Much like the John Smoltz and Rocco Baldelli signings, Saito represents a low-risk, high-upside gamble for Boston.
