<{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->Heyman:
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <!--quotec-->The Los Angeles Dodgers and Andruw Jones have agreed to rework his contract to save the team $12 million off its 2009 payroll, SI.com has learned. The deal likely will lead to Jones playing elsewhere next year.
The Los Angeles Times reported Friday that the sides were working on such an arrangement.
With Jones agreeing to defer more than half his $20 million salary to aid the team, it stands to reason that the team will agree to part ways with him at some point. Jones expressed a desire to the Dodgers that he'd like to play elsewhere in 2009.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Will the union let him do that?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Why wouldn't they? If I understand correctly, he is still going to get all his money that he is owed AND have the opportunity to sign with another team and make more money. It seems to me he actually makes more money in this agreement, I wouldn't think the union would have any problem with that.
However, as Ace said, this looks like a very bad precedent to set...if this becomes an option, what keeps players from holding out because they want to go to another team?

Yep.
